I am interested in knowing how Negishi Housing is set up. What is the square footage, etc. How is your experience living there, etc.

the layouts and sq footage are different between the houses. there are single story, single family homes. and then there are two story duplexes, single story quadplexes.... i cant think if there are any other variations of all that. but yea, the houses vary. we love living here. its a 45min-hour drive to base which is a bit of a commute, but for us it is worth it. we have a nice yard for our dog and plenty of room to bbq and entertain. there is a grocery store/nex that is smaller than the commissary, but always has what we need as far as groceries. outdoor pool for the summer, a bowling alley, movie theater, and post office. i hope this helps somewhat. let me know if you have any other specific questions.

    Hi Andi San

I read your reply about Negishi housing. I am a civilian PCSing in December or January not sure yet but I am trying to get information about the Negishi Housing I heard great things from a friend of mine who work for DLA now but he was station in Yokosuka couples months ago.

If you do not might could you share pics or video about the negishi housing and facilities. I am moving with my wife and 2 Girls (6 year Old & 20 Months). This is the first PCS for us and we are a bit nervous specially my wife.

How much and how far is the train from Negishi housing to The Base?

Any other ideas or suggests that you can share with us it is welcome remember we are Newbie PCS.

    Thanks
    Willie

    Willie,

I guess had I looked at all your forum posts I could have wrote you a better email...

To answer your question here about the trains... Trains are EXTREMELY CHEAP!!! If you take them on a daily basis you can purchase a pass (several different variations of the pass, but an example follows)... If you take the train every day from one station to another (always the same stations) you can save a ton of money by purchasing a specific pass for that route and you can even use it to get off anywhere in between those two locations...these passes are sold by the month, 3 months, six months and definitely cuts the costs down. To see the average cost of a standard ticket check out www.hyperdia.com (Japan train information in English).

I think the type of house I live in (two story dulex w/ 2.5 bedrooms) is very common in Negishi. I can nitpick and complain all day, but it's not a bad living situation at all. The 1/2 bedroom is perfect for my daughter's nursery and we still have the extra bedroom for guests/office/etc. If you're interested, I'd be happy to take pictures. I wish I could give you an idea of the sq footage, but I really have no idea. If you get orders to Yokosuka, take the time to look around Negishi and the available homes before you choose one. They all have slight differences (yard size, location...) so choose what is best for you.
The train is great although there aren't any stations really close. Depending on what end of the base you live on, the walk is about 15 minutes. Of course, there are buses that make it all much easier. If you're a city person, the proximity to Yokohama is a serious plus.
Please contact me if you have any more questions.

HOw is the noise level in Negishi? For example, a couple with no children living in one of the duplexes with a family that has 1 or more children..can you hear through the walls easily? Or if someone is entertaining outside, is it noisy for the neighbors?

I actually live in an unattached house in Negishi. I have never heard neighbors' parties, but the homes are close enough that you can hear it if your neighbors have a yappy dog. My backyard faces 3 others and we all have loud dogs, so that might be a downside. I think that for the most part, people try to be respectful and there are rules about noise.

When I first moved here, we didn't have kids. The house was attached and our neighbor had a newborn and NEVER heard him.
