I am trying to find this information out, but since I'm the spouse and not in the Navy, they won't give me any info.  We arrive in Sasebo (from Bethesda) mid-July, but the last of our belongings will be picked up June 21.  Meaning we will have nothing but clothes for our last week and a half or so in Bethesda.  Does the Navy allow us to stay at the Navy Lodge in the interim?  Or will they pay for a hotel?  My wife said she thinks the Lodge there stays pretty full with Wounded Warriors.

My wife would try to find this information out, but she's a physician and working 0600 to 1800 right now with zero free time in the day to go over to PSD or even give them a call.  It makes it difficult because she CAN'T go there and they won't give any information to me.

So, any information you can provide will be helpful.  At this point all we want to know if this kind of service is even available.  Thanks!

Has your wife been assigned a sponsor? We are currently in the same scenario as are many other people that make the move. We are currently staying in a hotel, stateside, for about 2 weeks and once we arrive in Sasebo we will stay at the lodge until we get into housing. You will have to keep all of your receipts and submit a travel claim, but they should cover it all.

If they have rooms available they would allow you stay there, if not you would need to find other accommodations, there is also a limit for each area so if you chose the "Ritz Carleton" you will end up paying out of pocket some more.  As noted previously you will be compensated for some of your expenses during the PCS save all receipts.  I don't know if they would cover a few weeks of hotels it may get deducted off the other end.  You will be required to pay up front for everything unless you receive some sort of an advance payment.

AD military orders and civilian orders are slightly different here too, if the civilian sponsor's spouse travels seperately from the sponsor they don't receive per diem for those transient days but they do allow temporary housing.  That's just something I discovered recently.  Here is a per diem calculator:

    Save all your receipts.

I believe you can be reimbursed 10 days of temporary living in the states.

My family got to Sasebo three months ago. The member needs to go online and make reservations for the sasebo navy lodge. PCS has priority but, if it is full you will get passed up and will have to stay in a hotel out in town. so the best advice is to book early my husband booked ours two months in advance. Plan to be there 3-4 weeks. if you are ok with navy houseing you can move in n about 2 weeks. both Naval housing in Sasebo have space as of right now. If you plan on living in a cho the move in time is up to you depending on how long it takes for you to find a place from housing on the board that you like and sign all the paperwork and make your deposit. but to answer your question yes you will have a place to stay and yes the navy will reimburse you.

Thanks for all of the information! I did finally get in touch with someone at the Walter Reed PSD office who would give me information (no idea why one person would say they couldn't tell me anything but I called back later, got someone else, and they could tell me). Anyway, as it was told to me, they will cover 5 nights in a hotel in the States ($224/night max). 5 nights really doesn't seem like much at all considering we are moving literally around the world, but I guess we'll buy an air matress and crash in the empty apartment for the first 5 nights. I know they can't pay for weeks and weeks, but I would they'd at least cover 1 week. We will have to check with the Navy Lodge first and if they are full, we get some "no vacancy" form and can then check for a hotel in town. We'll submit for a reimbursement when we get to Sasebo. From what my wife says we do get quite a bit longer in Sasebo so we can have time to find a house and whatnot, so that's good I suppose.

    Thanks again for the information.

We were not reimbursed anything for our hotels stay in the states because my husband was at a school for 6 weeks prior to our actual move date. they just had us stay on the east coast, pack out and meet him a week later on the west coast to catch the mac flight to Japan. Your command sponsor should make you reservations at the lodge. Hopefully they can get you in. Good luck with your move

I have a question too since its the same subject matter. We leave July 10th and we have a reservation at navy lodge from. July 1-10 as a family. I am not command sponsored and me and our daughter our paying for our own tickets. But will my husband be reimbursed with our stay at the navy lodge and will he be reimbursed as well when we get to the States and temporarily stay in a hotel there?
