Would love to hear what strollers you find work really well with the trains, buses and all the walking that we do here in Japan.  I want a lightweight stroller that's easy to get around with and that we can use with a newborn (already have an ergo to use as well). Thanks for any suggestions on what does or doesn't work for you!

Get something that is easy to fold and doesnt take so much space but the baby is still comfortable. Something that got soft cushions is nice. Something that reclines well so you can see places and the baby will be able to nap even for long hours outside. We got a joovy and I love it. I used to have the safety first stroller though I don't like it as much as I love the joovy.

I bought the Combi. I have enjoyed using it and it fits thru the turnstiles for the trains. It is easy to fold, compact, stand by itself when folded and fully reclines. Lightweight enough to carry up the stairs when there is no elevator at the subway stations.

Personally prefer, Japanese brand like Combi or Aprica. Is expensive but is worth it because is light and foldable. Especially if you want to go around on train is much easier to bring it considering some of the train stations has no elevator and you have to carry the stroller and baby at the same time. Hope this help.

I have the Maclaren triumph and love it. It's not meant for a newborn. I think it starts at 3 months. But I used the moby wrap for our son until he was 10 weeks and then we moved him up to the ergo. At 5 months, he is still in the ergo while his sister is in the stroller. The Maclaren is super easy to collapse and had a nice strap for carrying it. I am able to do stairs carrying the stroller, with the baby in the ergo, and the toddler holding my hand. It is fairly light weight. They have the volo model at Daiei, but we ordered ours from Amazon for 1/2 the Japanese price for the volo. I like that it also came with a rain shield/cover. If you go to Disney, you will notice that most Japanese people have the Maclaren, Aprica, or Combi strollers.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Stuck on shore, you mentioned a store in Daiei that had the floor model. Do you know what floor it's on? Are there other stores in the area to try out some strollers before ordering online?
    Thanks!

The daiei mall have a lot of strollers. Expect it to be more pricey though. It is around 15000-20000 ogle more but their strollers are really comfy and space savers. It is on the 5th floor if I am not mistaken near the music store and G.U. if you want morevarieties try Yokohama.

We have a Britax Bee, its big so when we go on the trains we use the handicap entrance's- we have a double jogger we use just here in town because we have 2 toddlers- its easier because they prefer to be side by side the front and front like the britax. I would recommend a MacClaran, its what we had before we had our last baby- the reasoning is that we looked at the local strollers offbase, and they were all too short for us, we are 5ft9 and 6ft3 so neither one want to bend over while we push a stroller. Good luck

Aprica stick is one of their best sellers, they have some at Living. If you want to go a little further there is a toysrus in Isogo. It's just straight on 16. They have more variety of brands. I been looking for the new Mutsy Evo but neither online or locally have I found one. If anyone where they sell Mutsy brand please let me know.

I think the strollers are on the fourth floor in Daiei. It's been awhile since I've been there. If I remember correctly they are located in the same area as the children's clothes - toward the waterside of the mall.

StrollerQueen just reviewed the Mutsy Evo, If you ask her on her website she'd probably have that answer for you (or Stroller_SWAP on yahoo groups).

I sold all of my Side By Side (SBS) strollers in anticipation of our move there and have bought a Bugaboo Bee (which is a single stroller) but plan to buy the Bugaboo riding board to put on the back for a second rider. I also plan to purchase a Mountain Buggy Plus One and the Freerider riding attachment so that I'll be able to carry all 3 children with one stroller. Those were the recommendations that I got from my stroller group when I asked them. Still, I will miss my SBS jogging Strollers.

I used the Valco Baby (kind of like the City Mini but doesn't tip when loaded with bags on the handle) for around base and then we got a cheap umbrella stroller for taking on trains.

Aprica Stick stroller. If I had seen that in the states, I would have bought it in a heartbeat!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Mz7b7ppl3M

I have a McClaren Triumph that works well because it folds and locks/unlocks without hands and it reclines (a must for little babies). Decent turning and maneuverability, but it doesn't stand upright on the train like the Aprica Stick. Now that I have a toddler and a baby, I got the Phil and Ted Explorer Tandem stroller. I use it to jog, it fits both kids comfy, and it isn't as wide as a side by side.

That's awesome that it stands up after folding; I would imagine that feature would be very handy on the subway!

Whats the purpose of having a high seat? more storage underneath? Are more strollers going in that direction? Just curious.

The Britax B-Ready stands while folded as well, even with the double seat on.
