I had a general question for the Japan Bases membership.  Please note that this is not an advertisement for services offered and that by discussing this topic with you, I am not agreeing to become your lawyer.  And obviously, anything you post on this website is going to be public, so there will not be any attorney-client privilege.

Are there any areas of Federal law where you feel there is a need for American lawyers in Japan?  Does anyone know of any American lawyers (other than military lawyers) that practice on bases in Japan?  By asking these questions, I'm not looking for specifics of any cases, just a general field where you feel there might be a need.  I am considering opening an office in the future and would like some information on what types of services there might be a need for.

    Thanks for the input everyone.

I have many friends that are lawyers in Japan. Both Japanese and Americans in Japan.

The american lawyers typically practice corporate law for Japanese firms. Some practice international issues, but I dont know of any that practice military law.

Its a unique practice, and one that you would find everywhere in the states with military affiliate lawyers, who handle court martials and things of that nature.

In the contractor/civilian sector I could see the need for someone to provide services to those individuals, that work under the base, simply because the base legal office, wont appoint an official to represent you, and nor what I want them to. Its always best to seek outside assistance, and advice when your dealing with legal matters.

Regrettably, there is always the need for family law practice around military bases.
