Does anyone have Apple TV? And if so, are you able to watch movies or is it blocked like Netflix? I know there is a Netflix app, but they also have other movies? How does it work?

Hulu works on Apple TV but not Netflix, unless you have a ip blocker, or wireless router with a vpn connection blocking the ip address. That is my experience I watch HULU and other websites all the time

Apple TV works great. I have no issues with watching movies without a VPN. Netflix will not work on it. However I watch netflix on my laptop hooked up to the tv with a VPN.

Something new I have discovered is Amazon instant videos! They are really cheap too! I got one of our favorite TV series the NEX usually has for $40 only for $18 (Netflix didnt have it). To download the movies to your computer, you do need VPN though, and we hook our laptop to the computer too.

I love Apple TV. Use it not only to get TV shows, but also to play my music off my computer or listen to state side radio stations.

If you can get an ATV2, I say go for it. Get one and jailbreak it. ATV3 still hasn't been jailbroken...I'm waiting.

Due to recommendations from others here, we are using UnblockUs to watch our Netflix, Hulu, Crackle, and all the major network sites (ABC, NBC, CBS, AMC, etc) that are usually (blocked to Japan) limited to US only...oh, and BBC in the UK.  We like it because it only took a few seconds to set up (way easier than VPN). It doesn't seem to slow down our connection either. StrongVPN did sometimes so I'm ditching that when the contract is up.

I set mine up on our main router in just a minute using the guide on the UnblockUs website and now I have my AppleTV and Roku streaming ALL content in our upstairs bedrooms. Downstairs we have our Windows PCs, Mac OSX computers, iPhones, iPad and Android tablets all connecting just like they would back in the US. Yes...we're tech geeks at our house

Figured I'd share this as it simply works. No special equipment is necessary. Setup is easy. It seems to be the answer that many have been looking for on Yokosuka, Yokota, Atsugi, Misawa, Camp Zama, Sasebo, and, I figure just about every overseas location.

Unblock US gives you a 2 week trial that doesn't require your CC or anything. If you don't like it, you never spent a dime. After the 2 weeks is up, it's about $5/month...no contract necessary.

Ok so I'm a little behind. May sound stupid, but do you need Americable if you have Apple TV?

You can use Apple TV with any provider. I don't have Americable, and use Apple TV just fine.

You need to have an Internet connection in order to use Apple TV. If you are on base here in Yokosuka, that means Americable. If you are off base, NTT or J-Com are good options for Internet Service Providers.

Apple TV advertises that NETFLIX works with them......?

Has anyone else been able to make it work?

Dreamweaver - Am I reading that you have two routers? We will also be wanting to use our Apple TV and everything Mac gadget we have and would love for TV (Hulu, Netflix) to be unblocked. Thanks!

Okay, so... If you're living on-base in Yokosuka, and have AppleTV using Americable Internet, you'll need a VPN to watch NetFlix, or not?

Because Hulu is available in Japan whereas Netflix and Amazon are not.

I'd recommend unblock-us.com, they give you access to Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime. You change your DNS settings instead of using a VPN to change your Japanese IP address to a US based one. Also, going the unblock-us route won't slow down your internet whereas using a VPN can affect your speeds. I have and use both for different reasons. If you just want to watch Netflix, I would go the unblock-us route. It's also cheaper. Just my two cents.
