Hello Ikego, I am Ikego's AOIC and I just found out about this forum.

I've set up a profile here and will be scrolling through the forums combing for questions that maybe I can help out with.

We have been stretching our social media limbs and are trying to stay current with technology and reach out to people who either live in Ikego or are prospective residents.

We have a facebook page as well as a twitter that details current information and events.

    Our contact e-mail is ikegodetachment@gmail.com.

I just wanted to take some time to introduce myself and establish a presence here on JB.

I hope I'll be able to help in the future.

Like I said before, I'll be combing the forum looking at ways I can help and we will definitely integrate this site into our usual routine.

I've also taken this opportunity to upload a survey if there are any current residents who are interested in providing feedback.

I look forward to providing any assistance should anybody need it and an ear for anybody who has some feedback.

If a person has a motorcycle that is ridden to and from work meaning its legal to ride off base where are they supposed to park? I have a neighbor who parks his bike in his front patio. meaning he has to ride up on the sidewalk to park his bike... And in the morning its super loud when he starts the thing.,, Thanks

I can understand your frustration. After talking to the Ikego Housing office, it is clear that motorcycles are to be parked in designated parking areas only. Front patio isnot a designated parking area. I would talk to your neighbor and explain your situation. If nothing is resolved there, you can certainly lodge a complaint with the Housing Office or call security. I hope this answers your question.

Was curious what the rules are for car seats and at where they need to be? I see a lot of cars on base with the cars seats in the friont seats. I know if the states this is illegal. Also, at what age can children sit in the front seat. I see young (age 5 or 6) in the front seat all the time and this baffles me. Is this something checked at the gates coming on to base?

Laws for kids riding in the front seat is variable from state to state. Although not recommended, riding in a front seat for a forward facing child is usually OK. The rear seat are the safest seats for both adults and children. Airbag deactivation either manual or automatic and moving the seat back to the rear is also recommended.

I am wondering how easy/simple the train is to take? I haven't done AOB yet and we will be moving Ikego. I'm pretty nervous about getting back and forth and driving will not be an option for me anytime soon.

train is very very easy. If you want to go to main base, take any of the trains from Ikego, (get on the train closest to the gaurd shack., not across the tracks. they all stop at Kanazawa Hakkei (I prob spelled it wrong). Go down the steps, over and and back up the other side. Then take any of those trains. They will brob say to Uraga or to Misakigushi. They also all stop at YokosukaChuo. I believe it csts about 300 Yen each way so it does start to add up. There are always people going to main base. Especially for groceries, you can prob catch a ride. The other option is to take the train one stop to Zushi which is the other dirction. lots of little produce stands and some grocery stores there as well. We know someone who just left but they were here 3 years with 2 little one and never bought a car so it is certainly possible.

Hi>> I am looking for a little bit more information about taking the train TO Ikego base... to the gym specifically. I am very new as well but have been around the main base but not to Ikego at all. I have a train station really close to my house that i take down to Yokosuka-chuo sometimes.
Could anyone please tell me exactly how to get to the base by train. Then where to go once I get off. My house is close to the Horinchou(sp?) station. I would really really appreciate it! Thanks!!!

Here is a copy of the directions to Ikego by train from the Fleet and Family Service Center.

    http://www.cnic.navy.mil/navycni/gr...286742.pdf

If you are going to take the train a lot, then this website is your new best friend.

    http://www.hyperdia.com/en/

Type in the name of the station that you are starting at and the name of the station that you will be ending at. Then your arrival or departure times. In this case, you will want to start at Horinouchi station and end at Jimmuji station.

I don't know exactly where the gym is physically located at Ikego, but I am sure that it is not a very far walk from the gate there. You can call 046-816-1110 (Yokosuka Operator) and ask for the number to the Ikego gym or the Ikego OIC. They can give you more precise direction on Ikego.

When you get off at Jimmuji station, do not exit on the same side as the train. Cross the tracks and cross directly into Ikego. You will be looking at the Mini-Mart/pool. Turn left and walk to the end of the road. At the end, go right and walk along the fields on the left side of the road. The gym will be on your left. Not a long walk at all.

Have seen lots of construction materials and crews entering Ikego over the past weeks. Is it possible to learn what's being constructed?

Just curious. Would rather hear it from the horse's mouth (as it were) vice rumor.

Thank you for your question. All construction vehicles coming to Ikego are brining materials for the new Elementary School. Expect completion of the new school for the 2014-2015 school year.

What is the standard for updating the community boards on base, particularly at each bus station? I am new to the area, and a lot of the flyers seem extremely dated and I often wonder who is in charge of posting recent, still relevant information.

Would it be possible to have the first floor bathrooms in the towers near playgrounds and bubble gym be unlocked? It is a real pain to be at the playground or bubble gym and have to go all the way home or to the minimart to go to the bathroom. This is very impractical with small children who frequently have no warning before needing to go. Also since there is no bathroom near the gym I've seen someone relieving himself in one of the corners behind Nara tower.

Thank you for your comment and concern. The restrooms are taken care of by MWR so I will bring this up to Ikego's Community Leaders at our next meeting.

With it getting so hot in our homes and inside the stores and CDC. How much are we actually saving when people are adding fans and AC units to their homes? (Why cant we just have the AC?) Wouldn't that use less energy? Just wondering what the difference is.

    Thanks!!!
