Hey Navy Fans, did you know the U.S. Navy is featured in an upcoming summer blockbuster?
Attached is the trailer for the upcoming feature film "Battleship."
I can't vouch for the quality of the acting, but it looks like a lot of cool explosions and pop-star Rihanna in the Navy Working Uniform.
Take a look and discuss.

Battleship is an upcoming 2012 epic action-adventure film inspired by Hasbro's popular game "Battleship".

Synopsis:
Peter Berg (Hancock) produces and directs Battleship, an epic-scaled action-adventure that unfolds across the seas, in the skies and over land as our planet fights for survival against a superior force. Inspired by Hasbro's classic naval combat game, Battleship stars Taylor Kitsch as Lt. Alex Hopper, a Naval officer assigned to the USS John Paul Jones; Brooklyn Decker as Sam Shane, a physical therapist and Hopper's fiancée; Alexander Skarsgård as Hopper's older brother, Stone, Commanding Officer of the USS Sampson; Rihanna as Petty Officer Raikes, Hopper's crewmate and a weapons specialist on the USS John Paul Jones; and international superstar Liam Neeson as Hopper and Stone's superior (and Sam's father), Admiral Shane.
Berg directs this epic action-adventure also produced by Scott Stuber (Couples Retreat), Sarah Aubrey (The Kingdom), Brian Goldner and Bennett Schneir of Hasbro (the Transformers franchise), along with Duncan Henderson (Master and Commander) and Jeffrey Silver (300). The film is written by Jon Hoeber & Erich Hoeber (Red).
The battle for Earth begins at sea.

Looks fun, although it appears to have as much to do with the real Navy as NCIS has with real criminal investigation. Pure fiction.
I was the last missiles officer on the very last commissioned battleship (USS Missouri). A full broadside with your main & secondary batteries (as depicted in the movie trailer) was a trip! The prevailing myth was, the entire ship would move sideways 6 feet in a simultaneous broadside. Don't know if that's true or not, but it was unbelievable violence unleashed, and you'd better be wearing ear protection if you were anywhere near topside.
The ship stayed in commission 6 months longer than planned so it could host President Bush #1 at the 50th anniversary commemoration at Pearl Harbor. I got to meet him, plus Stephen Seagal who was scoping out his movie "Under Seige". Celebrities love battleships!

A closer look... The broadside was main batteries only; 9 barrels of 16" rounds. The video sure looks real; I don't know if it's CGI or stock footage of a real battleship.
The ceremony depicted on the battleship looks to be USS Missouri, which is now a display ship at Ford Island in Pearl Harbor. If you flash your ID at the ticket booth & identify yourself as a battleship sailor, they'll let you onboard for free (sorry kids, this won't work if you're much under 35 years old). :-) When I took the tour, they let me into my old stateroom, portside 02 level just abaft the wardroom. My wife didn't know me in those glory days, so she got to see my old digs for the first time. A real stateroom with wood paneling and a wood frame bed. They don't make 'em like that anymore!

Parts of this movie were filmed while at RIMPAC a couple years ago off the coast if Hawaii...my husband was on one of the ships depicted in the movie. I can't wait to see it!

I almost didn't want to give this one a chance, until I saw Liam Neeson. One of my top 3 favorite actors. He never disappoints. This is a must watch for me!

‘Battleship’ stars visit CFAY for special movie promotion
By MCSN Declan Barnes, Navy Public Affairs Support Element Japan
Actresses Rihanna and Brooklyn Decker, stars of the Navy-oriented film ‘Battleship’ are interviewed by
MC2 Brandon Shelander during a visit with the Sailors and families forward deployed to Commander Fleet
Activities Yokosuka April 2. The director and stars visited with the Sailors and answered questions during
a meet and greet at CFAY’s Benny Decker Theater.
The stars and director of the new film “Battleship” visited Sailors and their families at Commander Fleet Activities Yokosuka (CFAY) during a ‘meet and greet’ at the Benny Decker Theater April 2.
Director Peter Berg and actors Taylor Kitsch, Alexander Skarsgård, Brooklyn Decker, Rihanna and Tadanobu Asano met with Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka, Capt. David A. Owen, participated in a question and answer forum and took photos with the Sailors. Singer and actress Rihanna said working and learning from Sailors during her time making the film was a humbling experience.
“It was really special having a lot of real Navy Sailors and veterans help us make the film,” said Rihanna. “We could never stand up to half of what you guys are. We look up to you guys so much, and I have so much respect for you guys.”
Owen said he appreciated the stars taking the time to come and visit the forward-deployed Sailors. “It’s always great when we can get celebrities over here, and these are some really awesome individuals,” said Owen. “Sailors have been talking about this for the past couple weeks, and I hope they know just how much this means to them.”
The feeling of deep appreciation for the struggles and sacrifices of the Navy’s forward-deployed forces resonated throughout the entire cast.
“I’m always interested in supporting the military,” said Berg. “I love and have so much respect for everybody in the military, particularly the Navy and their families, and we all understand the sacrifices that you guys make.” After the event at the base theater, the stars visited the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73), vistied with the crew and took a tour of the ship. “To come all the way over here and meet so many Americans that have made such great sacrifices – it’s humbling,” said Berg. “All of us got emotional flying in here on the helicopter.”
“This movie was made for you guys,” said Decker. “Keep up the hard work.”

Actor Tadanobu Asano sits in the Commanding Officer’s chair during a post press conference tour aboard the aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73).
George Washington played host to a news conference between 150 international journalists and the director and cast of the movie Battleship on the flight deck of the Navy’s only full-time forward deployed aircraft carrier.
