    Naval Air Facility Misawa, along with all other U.S. Naval Forces Japan directed U.S. Navy ships and shore installations, are flying both the U.S. and Japanese flags at half-mast today (March 11), to commemorate the first anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake. Later today, NAF Misawa will observe a moment of silence at 2:46 p.m. in remembrance of those who perished during the earthquake and its subsequent tsunami.



    Damage Controlman 1st Class Joseph Dubois, originally from West Point, Calif., prepares to perform morning colors. Dubois will ensure the U.S. flag is hoisted then lowered to half-mast to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake.


    Master-at-Arms 1st Class Ariel Falguera, originally from Las Vegas, prepares to perform morning colors. Falguera will ensure the Japan national flag is hoisted then lowered to half-mast to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake.



    Master-at-Arms 1st Class Ariel Falguera, originally from Las Vegas, hoists the Japan national flag, while Master-at-Arms 3rd Class Adam Cerri, from Frankfort, NY, salutes during morning colors on board Naval Air Facility Misawa. Falguera will then lower the flag half-mast in commemoration of the one-year anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake.
