I was wondering if anyone knew whether or not IKEA could deliver onto Yokosuka? I'd imagine it would be a bit of a hassle, but thought I'd ask anyhow.

I am in the market for a more western type bed. I did check the furniture store on base and didn't really see anything within my budget.

If anyone has any suggestions on getting a queen bed delivered into tower housing, that would be much appreciated.

They deliver all the way to the gate. You have to meet them over there. I don't know if they can go inside but my husband met them over there and took the stuff from them using our van. 2900 Yen for up to 60kg.  Heavier than that will be more expensive.

They deliver to your house but you have to meet the truck at the main gate and sign them in, and then bring them in through the Womble Gate for an inspection.

I can understand the bringing through Womble gate for an inspection, but where are they suppose to park at the main gate?

When they pull up, they are going to re-direct them to turn around at the main gate.

So where did you have them wait during this period?

    On the side of RT16?

Did you have to bring the delivery person into the security office at the front gate and get him an escort pass?

Just seems weird they would allow just any delivery vehicle..

    My Recommendation:

Just rent a TRUCK from the NEX.  Its about $50...

Drive up to IKEA, load up your stuff, and drive it back inside the gate.

Have a friend or 2 meet you when you arrive to help bring the stuff inside the house.

All the toll tickets are included, with your rental..  This is what I decided to do, and ended up being cheaper than having IKEA deliver it for me.

IKEA has a relationship with the base security as a commercial vendor. They call ahead and security expects them. They do pull over right on Route 16 and meet you at the gate to walk into security. They are issued a commercial pass and then they drive over to Womble, get inspected, and come in. It took like ten minutes tops. There is a separate desk to get passes for commercial vendors.

I drove over to Womble to meet them just to expedite getting them to my house quickly but it is not required, and they need no exit escort either. They drop the pass in the red box when they leave.

It didn't cost more than a rental car for me but I suppose it depends on what you buy. Plus, they carry it wherever you want and will take away old mattresses (if necessary) for you as well.

Help! We are supposed to be receiving a bed from ikea...I called ikea bc they still haven't delivered and the delivery companies phone number isn't working...the lady I talked to at ikea didn't really speak English and they are supposed to be calling back but who knows. Everyone I talk to seems to not know where Yokosuka base is? Can someone help with an address to the main base or somehing...we already gave them an address but they seem really confused.

Yikes! All I can tell you is that it is by Yokosuka Chuo train station, on route 16 (Yokosuka Highway), Kanagawa-ken... when I had my couch delivered out in Hayama, I ran into a similar problem, which is why I chose not to get a bed delivered when I moved on base. The company that actually delivered my couch was Kuroneko, and they told me they would deliver on the day we picked, between the hours of 8am and 9pm, and that MAYBE they will deliver a day early or late, they don't really know. The couch arrived on the of delivery at 8AM with no phone call, which I was told I would get before delivery

Yea, they didn't sound very sure of anything, and the fact it took them 30 minutes just to find my order was quite disturbing, especially the price for the bed. I'm wondering if it will just be best to return it before they deliver it. It seems like it's to much of a hassle, and I don't really want to g all the way back to ikea so hopefully they can do that over the phone!
