I am a licensed Cosmetologist and will be transferring to Sasebo in August 2012. I know main base has a salon... is the salon in Hario still open? Any idea what professional products they use for hair color?

I am trying to decide if i should just work from my home once I get there.

Are there any specific needs that ladies are lacking for beauty care?

    thanks in advance

I am moving to Sasebo in April and would DEFINITELY use your services! I'm not sure if that service is lacking but I know for me personally I have been stressing about how I will get my hair done... so keep in touch!

There is a salon still on Hario. But, I've never seen an American working in either of them.
It'll all be alright. Cayla Rose's mommy. =]

Hi there. Just thought id chime in. The Salon on Main Base just re-opened last month and is fabulous. They use Matrix hair color I believe and also have a Mani-Pedi station where they primarily use OPI products. However, they do not offer any waxing services and can sometimes get backed up. I think someone like you with the know how would be a GREAT asset to the wives around here.

The Japanese salons do for a fraction of the cost compared to the US. Usually services are more expensive but not in this case. From my experience they prefer this as opposed to using any hot tools on your hair and offer to do it.

I cant remember what they said. It wasnt expensive. It was either near 100 Us dollars or 10,000 yen so slightly over.

Not military, just found this (great!) site looking for something else. Hopefully this is helpful:

It may not be worth it if you have similar options on base now, but there's a place here in Karatsu (over in Saga prefecture, about a 90 minute drive from Sasebo) with a Japanese stylist who cut hair in Beverly Hills for five years. He's friendly, speaks fluent English, and knows all the ins and outs of Western people's hair. The place is called "Hair Mode Yume", and is located directly behind the Oteguchi bus station. Afraid I don't know all the amenities/services he offers (I'm a guy), but most of the clientele there are ladies. Their number is 0955-70-0098, if you ask for someone who speaks English they'll put him on (think Monday is their day off).

Karatsu's pretty cool: it has a castle, beaches, and a really well-known pine forest (well, Japanese people know about it), so might be worth making a day trip.
