What is your opinion of the Yokosuka Teen Center?

About 12 days ago, I submitted the following comment to MWR and I have yet to here from management... 
 
" Hello. The conduct of the children (on both sides) and lack of supervision at the Teen Club as gotten out of hand. The Teen Club as a terrible reputation and most parents won’t allow their kids to go. Kids are fighting, a kid threatened to killI someone, and on any given day you can see inappropriate behavior between the boys and girls. Now, the crazy part is that nothing was done to the kids. I am an active duty parent of two kids who like the Teen Club very much, but due to much of the nonsense I plan to stop my kids from going. I have a few experiences I would like to share. Please provide contact information."

If you have kids that go to the Teen Center i suggest taking about 5 mins of your time to look around.  On the preteen side, much of the equipment is broken.  In the reading lounge, you are probably to see a bit of inappropriate behavior between the male and female kids.  The teen side is just a mess.  The staff is aware of what's going on but I believe their hands are tied.





 

If you used the ICE Complaint System, they are required to respond within three days, I think, something like that.  And somebody actually gets paid in Yokosuka to track those ICE complaints, not sure who, but probably a civilian.   You have to leave your name, email, and cell phone, otherwise they won't take your complaint seriously.    Contact the MWR Director, that's what he gets paid to do.   Good luck with your quest.

Have to tried talking to Eric Barge @ 241-2950. I also have Lee @ 241-4100  Not sure which one is in charge of Youth Sports or for the Teen Center but it's a starting point.  At least it's someone who should be able to tell you where to click for the ICE comments.  Just don't let them talk you out of filling out an ICE form.  Those forms are NEEDED to get things changed.  If you complain without an ICE comment you won't get far.   I have seen changes with ICE comments.

I think you can access the general ICE form from the Yokosuka Naval Base main page. When you go to enter the comment it will have you select where the complaint is to be directed.

I know of a few MWR facilities who have received ICE comments, so there is a way it can be done.

My son goes there once a week because we go to AWANA's ...He has told me things are broken and we keep forgetting to bring his old xbox up there....he hasn't told me about things like this going on...WOW is all I can say..I have gone there looking for him and the young lady at the counter said we don't keep track of the kids...they are free to come and go as they please.

Hello Jen, that is true but they are required to have each child sign in and out.  That's how they keep track on who in the center and who left.  The bad part is that this policy is not enforced and most of the time, the person you are speaking with is a student watching the front desk not a monitor.

I work for MWR, but not in that particular department:  Try contacting Lee leach at 241 4100 i am confident that he will listen and where possible correct deficiencies.  that being said there are some things that we cannot do at MWR, unfortunatley there are not many adults willing to work for minimum wage which is probably all that is authorized for the teen centers.  So there are times that some area's are handcuffed by fical restraints.
