I woke up today to find three emails ( one from Penzey's spices, one from scrapbook.com and one from Kohl's) saying that my packages have been returned. Penzeys email said right in it that the packaged was marked "Unknown", and the rep asked me to verify the address. It was correct. I called scrapbook.com, same deal. Sent back despite correct address marked Unknown.  I'm calling kohl's later today. I'm so frustrated! This has happened with A LOT of our mail. Even letters ( a check from my mother was sent back to her, despite the correct address!), Ebay packages and Christmas cards. I've even had Amazon packages sent back. We are shore duty, so using the command box. WTH? I can't get a straight answer out of anyone at the post office about this either. Some of ours stuff is coming through ( for example, a different scrapbook.com package I ordered about a month ago came in no problem ), but most of it is just being sent back! I put EVERYTHING in my husbands name, so there shouldn't be an issue, should there? Is anyone else having this problem?

Do they perhaps have a different name associated with the box? Ask them to check or assign you a new box. I'd show them a piece of mail to ask if you're addressing them correctly. Something is up if it's happening that many times.

It's a command box, and a small command. I'm heading there today with a printout of the emails from the retailers ( Penzeys and scrapbook sent an email saying hey, this is where we sent it and it came back ) which had the correct address on it. From what I understand we can't be given a new box because he's not on a ship. We *have* to use that one. At least, that's what I was told when I asked about this problem back in November.

Ahhh, I know nothing about the command boxes. Good luck, I hope something works. There is something being overlooked along the way somewhere!

Ahhhh! So frustrated!I called up there again, and the post office said that with small commands it's the responsibility of the mail orderly ( which is my husband! )  to sort and send back packages. So if we aren't getting our mail that means the mail orderly is sending it back. *Facepalm* Why the hell would he send HIS OWN packages, checks, letters, and Christmas cards BACK?! I asked to speak to someone who could maybe help me and I was told no one could, that all they do is stick it into the boxes. So someone is either sticking the packages into the WRONG box, or my husband is knowingly sending back his Xbox and PS3 games (hahah, yeah right!), Christmas checks/money gifts for our kids, letters from his sibilings...etc. I find that really hard to believe.

Are you not allowed to get a box at the main post office?

Is your husband the only mail orderly? Is he well liked?

It almost sounds like a prank that went too far.

If both of you are in Yokosuka and Command Sponsored then you can get a PO Box at the Post Office. Only the sponsor can sign up for the box though.

You can not get an individual box if you are on shore duty. I've tried and was denied by not only the people who work at the post office, but also spoke to the post office command master chief and was told NO.

I also have all my mail sent to the command post office box. I address all my mail in my husband's name to avoid any confusion.

Is there anyone else possibly picking up the mail? That's so strange.

The chief in charge of the Post Office is Senior Chief Mike Beando, an outstanding, stand-up kinda' guy. You could see him humping boxes right along with the sailors during the Christmas mail rush. I'm sure you could contact him and found out what's going on from the "horse's mouth." Just a suggestion, take it or leave it.

I was employed at the Yokosuka Main Post Office for several years and I am still able to troubleshoot any mail discrepancies. I had lived in Japan for 20 years and it's always a pleasure to help people with anything I can.  It seems that your mail has been returned to the U.S. I've seen this problem before and there are several different reasons why this problem could exist. You have indicated you are using your husband's command address and not a personal PO box at the post office. Depending on which command your husband works at would help to determine why the mail is being sent back to the U.S. For example, if your husband works at NAVSUPFLCY, formerly known as FISC, their box number is 11. Each office at NAVSUPFLCY has an office code. Let's say for example, your husband's office code is 25. If a piece of mail is addressed to "Box 1125" instead of "Box 11 Code 25", the mail clerks would not know the piece of mail is destined for NAVSUPFLCY. Instead, they would look at the name on the personal PO box 1125 and if the name on personal PO box 1125 doesn't match your husband's last name, they would then search for your husband's name in the Postal Directory. If you never officially checked in with the post office, they would not have any record of your husband and the piece of mail would be returned to the sender. This message to you is only the beginning of postal troubleshooting. This message could go on for about another thousand words. Something about the way your mail is being addressed is causing the problem. Otherwise, there would be thousands of other people having the same problem.
