Yabusame (流鏑馬?) is a type of mounted archery in traditional Japanese archery. An archer on a running horse shoots three special "turnip-headed" arrows successively at three wooden targets.

This style of archery has its origins at the beginning of the Kamakura period. Minamoto no Yoritomo became alarmed at the lack of archery skills his samurai had. He organized yabusame as a form of practice.

Nowadays, the best places to see yabusame performed are at the Tsurugaoka Hachiman-gū in Kamakura and Shimogamo Shrine in Kyoto (during Aoi Matsuri in early May). It is also performed in Samukawa and on the beach at Zushi, as well as other locations.

I belong to www.meetup.com/yokoyoko it is a photography group and we are meeting to enjoy this event.

I wanted to extend this to anyone not just the photography group! I hope you can make it!

I'm looking forward to this. My family usually only makes it out to the archery on the beach but not for the parade through Zushi.

So my question is, is this a walkable distance from Ikego? If I drive over there, is it possible to park there and then walk down there?

If you can walk to Zushi you can walk there. It's also really easy to take the train one stop from Jinmuji Station to Shin-Zushi Station.

The beach is about a 900m walk from Shin-Zushi Station, and about 2.5km walk from Ikego's gate. For reference, if you walk the big circle around Ikego it's about 2km.
