I would like to thank the "lady" that allowed her door to fly open, hit my car leaving your lovely blue paint and denting my door at the Commissary parking lot yesterday.  I would also like to thank you for being so kind as to look at it, shut your door, look around and then walk to the other side of your POS mom van so you could hide away and still carry on your obviously high level phone conversation.  I am concerned about your hearing though--- when  i called out  you just kept walking ... maybe you should have your hearing checked....while  there maybe get your moral compass checked as well.  I wrote down the make and model of the van and the license plate number.  When I find that scrap of paper I will put that info here so everyone can see what a great person you are---  especially when you think no one is around.

Ahhhhhh feeling a little better now.

I am amazed that you can park all over in Japan at any super small spot and never get dinged but on a military base with Americans around it's just like being on the front row of a Walmart in any US State. I intentionally always park far away from everything and every-time someone will drive that extra mile to park next to me. I just don't understand that either.

I'm know people like to vent but we are all adults right, so go handle your business like an adult when you find your piece of paper. Yeah she was wrong for ignoring you but 2wrongs don't make it right.

    Cigarnik,

I wouldnt recommend that as the solution.

    My advice:

    1) Contact Security Phone/Go To Office
(TODAY - NOT TOMORROW - NOT NEXT WEEK)
Make sure you speak to the supervisor on watch.

    2) It would help if you have all that information.
    Write down, Time/Location
All of her information, have it written down.
Write a description of the lady so they can identify her.

They will probably have you write this up on a statement, but it would help if you already had that information written down, so it will save you time there, and you have all the facts with you.

It might be helpful also, if you take a picture of the damage, and bring the pictures with you, to attach to the statement.

Once they have this information, they can begin to do an investigation.
Its not going to be very difficult, They will be able to check the persons where abouts, at the date/time
and see visually on the persons car if there are any damage marks that they of been left.

Especially if your saying that paint was smeared, its probably more than likely on their vehicle also.

    NOT REPORTING AN ACCIDENT:

This isnt your fault. Its the person that caused the accident. So if she looked around, and thought to herself, hmm. no one saw me do it, and then drive off, she is guilty, and will typically lose her driving privileges for 6 months to a year.

This is how you handle it professionally and in the correct manner.

Good luck, hope it all works out.

Adam is correct in his analysis and suggestions. You never want to put yourself in a position where another person could say you publicly embarrassed them, even though it sounds like you have a legitimate gripe. It also protects against a false accusation. There is a procedure in place on the base for this sort of situation and I would go that route, just sayin'.

I get what you're saying, but I still don't like that. My car has it's cosmetic errors here but I'd at least want an apology --even if it's just a sorry note on my car. If it's a big ding, then I'd want it fixed.

I had my Mini hit three different times in VA in parking lots and not once did anyone fess up (thankfully I lowered my deductible down to a $100). I'm so over people like the person above. It's entitled and rude, not to mention shady.

Come on folks....This is a rant forum not the social justice board. I did not want the poor women's head on a platter. I was "ranting". My car....God Bless Her...is 14 years old barely has a paint job and burns more oil than McDonald's. I apologize to everyone that may have been offended by the venom I spewed. Adam---I appreciate the words and that would certainly be the right course to have taken. I did not and have no one to blame but me. I could have chased her down more vigorously---I did not. I was more amazed and appalled than I was concerned about my "BXXXXin' Camaro" (Dead Milkmen reference did anyone get it?). Again--- I am sorry to cause such a stir...I woke up chapped about the whole thing, thought that it was harmless enough to be put on here. I will not be doing that again. peace...

In honesty, it's this attitude that encourages this type of behavior.  10 years old or 10 days old, it's still other people property and should be treated with the same courtesy that you would have people treat your things with.

My car is 10 years old, but has a flawless exterior. I would be pretty ticked off if s/one dinged my car and just took off w/out leaving a note. Just because your car is a POS, doesn't mean mine has to be, too. Some people take pride in keeping up with their vehicles by making sure it's washed, waxed, and in good looking shape. I know a lot of people buy junk cars on base, but not e/one treats their cars like a piece of garbage. People should be more considerate and careful......but, I guess that's asking a lot.

For the record~I am not rude or have a bad attitude...I am super careful when getting out of the car it's the 3 kids I must tote with me while husband is deployed that don't pay attention...if I had done something like that then yes I would have checked the other person's car, but I can assure you that I am not hunting some one down for a ding. 3 cranky kids, 90 degree weather and cranky mommy = get me the heck off this base asap....
I won't even park next to a pretty car....G*d forbid my kids not pay attention and hit a door no matter how many times I tell them....
and you are right, it's a rant and you are entitled to post it...but my goodness why didn't you just chase the woman down with you car and confront her if you were that upset.

Yoko girl, it's not asking a lot....my beautiful vehicle is sitting in storage in america...not sucking money into a car over here.. As I said before, I am careful but kids will be kids...now the adult, should have been paying attention...
stepping off the soap box b/c I now have obviously peed off some folks with my comments...
I take care of things I plan to take back to america with me...

I definitely dont want anyone hitting my car. I would definitely be pissed!

Actually I hit my own car by accident, running into a bush near my house.

I called Mr. Auto though. 2500 yen later he had it all fixed, dent removed, and painted like new..

Even if someone hit me, I know I could get it fixed fairly cheap, its just the principal that you dont just hit someones $hit and run off thinking know one saw you.

I think everyone realizes that. People on JB just provide assistance, because typically, thats what we are all here to provide. I dont think its that terrible to wipe it out. Just brings good discussions out, because if that was to happen to people, I think people need to understand its wrong, and it should be reported.

Would the military police even do anything if it were reported? I know in VA if something happens in a parking lot (like a door ding) the driver is responsible for their own car. The other person is not liable to fix it. I've actually known people who did call the police (in VA) and they came and said there was nothing they could do. Is it the same on base here? I don't know, just curious.

I have heard that if you damage s/one else's property or base property (however minor) and don't contact security, you will face a fine along w/ your license being revoked if it's found out that you are the cause of the accident. You are not even suppose to leave a note. From what I've heard, you have to contact security when the incident happens to report it....this applies off base as well.

I even heard of a situation where s/one hit s/thing on base, and went to report it to security on base (being an honest citizen), and security ended up ticketing this person w/ hit and run even though it was reported to them by the very person that had the accident. How crazy is that?! You do the right thing by owning up to your mistake, and security tickets you anyway. According to security, the proper procedure for an incident like this one is to call security as soon as the incident happens before leaving the scene of the accident. Someone in security can correct me if this information is incorrect, as what I'm giving you is all hearsay.

So, let this lesson be learned. If you hit a/thing, ANYTHING on base and take off w/out calling security, you could end up losing your license for up to a year if they find out about it. I've heard of two separate cases where this very thing has happened. I don't think people on base are aware of this.
