I went to the Autoport yesterday hoping to pick up a hot dinner to bring to work and they were completely out of ALL hot food. Not only were they completely out, it looked like they never had any.

There were signs on all of the hot food equipment that said, "Due to staffing issues Autoport will no longer have breakfast."

Are you kidding me? The Autoport was a hot breakfast lifesaver when I was in the Lodge. I know it's not the best food, but it's warm and I don't mind eating it.

I think it's a total bummer. The people who stock the hot food bar can't find one....ONE employee to send over to the Autoport to put some hot food inside the warming machines. REALLY?!?!

I'm just so bummed out. I was hoping to pick up a breakfast biscuit there this morning.

The Commodore poses this unrelated question, although it does involve the infamous Autoport where we put petrol into our automobiles. Why the heck do we still not have the ability to use a credit card there for gas? This is 2011 and the Yokosuka community deserves better than this 3rd world treatment. I hope the Shore Captain who is seen often out-and-about walking his rounds pulls in the NEX Manager and tells him, "Just make it happen, stop making excuses, or you're outa' here." That'll get his attention. That is all.

Well, that just blows. Anyhow, if you still want a hot breakfast you can pick one up at the mini mart/food joint in the FISC bldg, across the street from berth 12. It's up on the 2nd floor and has some good stuff to eat.

didnt they just renovate the Autoport (at the cost of who knows how much money) so that they could have hot food there???? I believe they specifically mentioned breakfast because they said Chilli's doesnt have it anymore. So now 2 or 3 months later, no breakfast already? that is a serious waste of money in renovation and takes up a lot of space they could use to offer other items. Ah well.....

Yeah it makes me sad that Chili's doesn't do breakfast anymore either....probably also due to staffing issues. A hot breakfast is just soooooo comforting when you first arrive to Japan and have nothing to do but live in the Lodge and attend AOB/ICR. Looks like they're taking that away. No breakfast at Chili's none at the Autoport....

I may just have to come over to FISC to get a hot breakfast. I mean geeze, is it so much to ask that they provide a hot breakfast in equipment that is designed to keep breakfast hot? Are they trying to say they have NO ON E at all available to work morning hours and make and distribute the breakfasts?

Besides FISC is there any other places on base that serve a hot breakfast? I don't mean doughnuts and prepackaged danishes...I mean like sausage, eggs, sandwiches....

I'm with ya' on this one. I was there later today and still no hot food... Like sulshies and donuts maybe... what a waste of money if there isn't even anything to "fill the shelves"...

But my question is, does that message on the sign mean it's temporary or permanent?

But Chili's does sell breakfast. It's just on the weekends. Doesn't help for those working the M-F routine but, for those of us stuck in the lodge it's there.

And they apparently don't tell you which you're getting when you book your room. I have never seen any other Lodge around the world that doesn't have kitchens in every room, but when my wife & I got to Yokosuka we were astonished to find only a tiny fridge & microwave.  It didn't matter much since we were there only for 2 days, but if we were PCSing in I'd have been pretty annoyed, esp since they didn't tell us when we booked the room.

Funny, I pay for gas with my credit card all the time at the Autoport. It just depends on the time of day when you have to go inside or go to the booth to pay. The hot food bit is a bummer though. I would say that Subway, McDonald's, or the food court at the Exchange all have breakfasting facilities and are not nearly as far out of the way as the Autoport is. Across the street from the Autoport is a big building with a parking structure on top of it. On the third or fourth floor of this building is a "Chotto-Mart" that also serves hot food as well as selling your basic mini-mart stuff.

I guess people arent interpreting what he is referring to. Its the machines so when you pump you can just pay at any time of day, like you typically would see in the USA (everywhere).

There was a previous discussion I found that was posted to the SEAHAWK. They responded with this:

    Sept. 24, 2010

Q: One night after the Navy Exchange Gas Station on Yokosuka base closed, I had no way of getting gas, except out in town.

But I ended up at the Ikego Housing Detachement where they have a gas station there with 24-hour access because of automated credit card purchase.

Can we get the same gas purchase capabilities for the gas station in Yokosuka?

A: We have plans in the works to make the gas pumps in the NEX Yokosuka AutoPort available 24 hours.

We are in the planning stages with CFAY Public Works Office to make this happen.

    We anticipate completion 2012.

    You can read it here:

I don't know if I'd really qualify it as a kitchenette. It has a two burner stove top, a microwave, small deep sink and a fridge/freezer combo fit for a college dorm room.

I think the breakfast comes from the American Cafe' in the NEX. They sell pretty much the same things for lunch, and last night I saw a sign that said they too were currently closed due to "Staffing Issues."
I come to shop, I stay to post.

I went to the American Grill at NEX today and saw the sign that said they had staffing issues. I have also heard some of the Filipinos that work there got fired..... not sure why.

Evidently that shutdown is also messing with the roach coach that sells that hot food to GW peeps. It's all the same food, right? Hmmm.

Yup sure did and several folks including myself have ICED that person. She is still there, and still screwing up orders.
"Fake Japanese"..... meaning a Filipino woman that marries a Japanese, gets a Japanese last name, a Permanent Resident status and then can get hired on at the NEX as an MLC. NEX doesn't have to supply SOFA, COLA or Post Allowance and saves a ton of money by hiring them.
