My family and I are coming to japan in a month. We are flying into Yokota on our way to Okinawa. We are bringing our 2 large dogs (German shepherd and collie) on our AMC flight. They have had their chips, shots, FAVN tests. I read that they don't need their Advance Notification done, is that correct?

Also, my German Shepherd is on anxiety medications. They are human medications prescribed for her by a behaviorist. Does anyone know the rules for bringing her meds? The human medicine people i talked to at the consulate office said it would fall under "animal medication rules" but the people i wrote about it said it is "human medication"

She also had dog food and powdered vitamins (in a 10lb tub). Are those okay going through customs?

I just came thru Yokota and had no trouble. Did not even have a copy of my orders and FEA when I landed as they had kept it in Seattle.

Are you arriving into a base in Okinawa too?

I did not really remember our stuff going though customs. I assume it was looked at but I don't think it was really scrutinized. And the items that i had with me on the plane never was looked at when I landed. They asked us to deposit any items that were not allowed into the country in the amnesty box. (i.e porno, drugs etc.).

And Yes, we did not have to do the 40 day notification if arriving at a us military installation.

That's great to hear! thanks for replying. Our final goal is flying right into Kadena.

I've been so worried about her medications. The guy from the ministry of agriculture said i need a certified letter from the manufacturer stating that they pills are not made with any animal materials. I've called the manufacturers and they have no idea what i want and have been less than helpful.

When they say you need to deposit porno and drugs and stuff - that's where her meds come in. Here, they are controlled human drugs that are commonly abused recreationally.

Do you have a letter from your vet stating the mess are for the dog?

I would call the people at the AMC deSk in Seattle to see what the say. They were very helpful with my questions or get the phone number of the AMC in Kadena to see what they say.
