After dealing with paperwork nightmares and finding out at 3 pm on Tuesday that we would be leaving for Japan at 6 am on Wednesday, we have finally made it to Iwakuni!  I'm really looking forward to experiencing the culture, and I have learned already that I ought to start working a lot harder on learning the language.  Anyway, I hope to meet you guys that have helped out on JB in getting us this far.  This site has been an immense help and I look forward to using it more in the future as a guide, and hopefully at some point, to help the people still on their way.

we have finally made it to Iwakuni!
    Congrats glad you made it!

I'm really looking forward to experiencing the culture, and I have learned already that I ought to start working a lot harder on learning the language.
Good luck with that. Most people say they will, but they end up staying 90% of their time in Japan on the base. Hopefully you wont be that way, and get off-base as much as possible to experience the culture and the amazing places!

Anyway, I hope to meet you guys that have helped out on JB in getting us this far.
Got Thaiguy right next door.. He is a great help to JB, especially for the Iwakuni community..

Thanks. I am glad JB has helped to fill in some missing gaps for you may of been confused with prior to venturing to Japan. We always love hearing great comments about what the site has done for people. Its not the site. Its the PEOPLE that belong to it! The JB community cares about people, because they remember them being in the same place years before they ventured to Japan. So as long as people do their part and contribute for years to come, people will always have a valuable source of info they can turn to.

That's utterly insane. Govt travel at its finest.  So you flew in commercial to Hiroshima?  Did someone meet you, or did you take the IT&T van?  Anyway, welcome to town.  You must be in TLF on the "good" side if you have internet this time of night.  There are still some transient quarters that do not have internet, so good work!

I think we are on the good side, it is really nice actually. We did fly commercial to Hiroshima and our sponsor met us from there and drove us on to base. I think we're going to go run the seawall this morning and see what there is to see. The travel was crazy, we were basically stuck in Newport after my wife graduated ODS and they didn't have our DEA done. Once it got done, travel was booked immediately. Luckily we were close to ready to leave.

Yeah, the main bldg of Kintai Inn is very nice. There is an Annex bldg near the bridge that ain't so nice. You will find half the seawall is closed for repairs but the other half makes a good run. The base tour takes like 5 minutes & that's all there is to see! If you're the sporty type, go visit Ironworks Gym. It's awesome! You can rent a locker for $3 a month, making workouts easy. Enjoy your stay in Iwakuni!
