Me and the family are taking a trip up to Camp Fuji and staying overnight up there.

They have a small BEQ that you can rent rooms.  Conveient, since its closet o Mt. Fuji, I think about 20-30 min drive, which is a lot closer than driving from one of the main bases like Atsugi, Yokota, Zama, or Yokosuka.

Anyhow, they have an outlet near by called "Gotemba Outlet" which we will go to.

My wife was also saying something about us going to some SAFARI park, where you drive around a jeep through the park.  Not sure about the details, she did most of the planning.  I am just the driver..

    Anyhow, it should be fun..

BTW, Camp Fuji base doesnt have much to offer.  Small club, not many food outlets to eat at.  It was years back the last time I stayed up there, so I will see if anything has changed over the years.

24 years here and I had no idea they had a BEQ at Camp Fuji!

I went to Gotemba outlet and nearly all the other outlet malls in Japan that my friends want to go to.. I just have no interest in them. Guess I'm not interested in that kind of shopping. I can get everything I need at Shimamura! LOL

The Safari park is really fun though!!!!

Hope you have a great time and post to let us know how it was!

Yes the BEQ isnt all that great, but its a place to rest your head after a long drive. I just dont want the fam shopping all day, and then having to turn back around and drive back home. So spending the night, its just a lot easier.

I think its about $50 to spend the night for a room. They ALWAYS have rooms also. My wife called up there, and she said it was really easy to get any day she wanted. Friday or Saturday..

I wish New Sanno was that easy...

Yes I will take some pictures of the park and shopping while I'm up there. I doubt I will be doing much shopping. Bringing my laptop and by E-mobile, so I can just continue programming in the room. I have so many projects I am working on, but its better to get the wife out of the house, so she will just leave me alone so I can code..

My wife & I stayed there, 2-3 nights while we toured around the Fuji area. It's a converted barracks, designed for family stays. Tip: Bring a table lamp or floor lamp!! Our room was so dark!! No ceiling light, and one wimpy table lamp with a short cord, with maybe a 25-watt bulb. Couldn't even read a book by the light.

We got there late & the duty guy was gone. Went to base security to see how to check in and no one was there. Went to the gate guard (the only human being we could find.) He tracked down some corporal who said our room was unlocked, just go in, and come to the office in the morning to pay. The room rate is for 1 person; it's like $20 extra for a 2nd person, and I don't know about kids. Overpriced for what you get, considering we've stayed in decent business hotels in Japan for 7000 yen including breakfast. Still Camp Fuji is a beautiful setting; look out your window & the mountain is right there. We did the Five Lakes drive, saw some amazing waterfalls & hidden glades plus some funky farm with goats & sheep and wagon rides. You can "rent" a goat and take him around on a leash for 20 minutes for maybe 300 yen.

Fun fact: There is no gas station there, only an industrial fuel farm. But during working hours Monday-Friday, the fuel farm will sell gas for your POV. It's kinda intimidating; it's not your neighborhood gas station; they have to fill out requisition forms to give you the gas and only accept cash. Have exact change. But it's better than buying out in town.

I didnt know that. I was planning to fill up before I left, so I think I will make it back with no worries.

Yeah, no prob. I was coming from Iwakuni at the time and was running on fumes even after a fill-up en route.
