would anyone be willing to foster care our 2 dogs until we find a place to rent?  will pay

they are currently staying at the MWR pet kennel on base but they are losing weight and its a small concrete dog run and I am very concerned about their welfare

we would only need your help until we find a place to rent

we have 2 dogs - Toby and Sammy both 2.5 years old

Toby is a pomeranian/japanese spitz mix

Sammy is a terrier/german shephard mix

they are ok to live full time outdoors as long as there is a shaded area for them to lay and some refuge from rain

my hubby will be serving on the USS George Washington

    Thank you for your help!

please message me thru here if interested

Contact the PAWS shelter at usskittytalk.yokosuka@gmail.com. Their website is www.pawsyokosukajapan.com. Here is some information from their "Coming to Japan?" section:

"Preparing to bring your dog or cat to Japan can be a long and frustrating process. The part that is often the worst is the required 6 month quarantine that is in place. It is true that if you have base housing, the quarantine can be completed here. But even then, what do you do during the time you spend waiting for your housing to be ready? Well, we are here to help!

If you have orders to Japan, or even suspect you will have them, please feel free to contact us. We work with many amazing volunteer families who are willing to help you. Of course the more advance warning, the better chances are that we can find someone. Email us all the pertinent information about your pet, and we will send that out to see who responds, at which point we will put you in contact with willing families". Let me know if that helps

yes I am aware of PAWS and contacted them months before we arrived here but still haven't got word that anyone has volunteered.

the leading lady that runs it Denise has emailed me back a few times but still no word on anybody to help

so i just thought to put this SOS out there to see if I might find some help thru this website

    Thanks though!

Tmari: I understand where you're coming from.....when we got here, we felt awful about putting our dogs in the kennel. They're not used to being locked up like that, especially in a foreign place. We put an ad up for $150 per week for s/one to watch our two rat terriers and got huge response right away. Even at $150 / week, it was still far cheaper than $32 / day the kennel was charging. I think you could find s/one to watch your dogs for less if they're outside dogs since they wouldn't require as much work......keep in mind though that it gets really hot here in Aug, so I would be a little concerned about them being outside in the heat all day. But, if they had a place to cool of (under a tree, mini kid's pool, etc), they probably would be fine.

Good luck. Hope you find s/one soon so you can get your little furbabies outta puppy hell.

If you cannot find someone local, have you tried the pet centers at other bases? Yokota's comes highly recommended.

    Good luck!

We were stuck in the lodge for 6 weeks and there was no way we were going to put our dog in the trailer (kennel) at Yokosuka.  We put her at the kennel at Camp Zama, the army base and she did great.  It is a bigger kennel, the dogs get to play with each other.  YOu can take small dogs on the train in carriers.  It is 2 transfers but you can get there by train.

I am facing this problem now. We arrive in Aug 2012 and I have a small chihuahua and a kitty who I will NOT put in a kennel. I'm hoping to find a family to let all of us stay with them. lol I know that's a far reach, but it doesn't hurt to ask. I will not be putting my pets in any kennel. Once I get there, I plan on volunteering to help people who are in this situation.
