Have you ever thought about asking the people to be quiet rather than whining about it in a forum that is not going to change anything?

Sure did. Of course, I got the side-eye from the wife and nothing changed. I guess I should just sit outside and wait for the next guy to throw is food around too, right?

Of course, a guy with one post will be the one to speak up. Was it you I talked to?

I did mention that not many people will agree with me. I don't think of myself as arrogant. I just think that military families who have to rotate often should have the availablity to live on base quickly then have to live out in town. Where as civillians who have been here a long time should live out in town. I think it strange when they have lived in Japan for more than 5 years and still don't know the language. Just a pet peeve of mine.

I would have no problem drinking with an officer or higher rank. Granted I never had to deal with a military lifestyle before so I don't understand all the rules or regulations.

I'm sorry if I have offended. Just trying to post a different view point. Good luck!

PS: I sure wouldn't want the job of running this base. Too much politics for me. I'm an Army brat and grew up with the saying "My way or the highway." Not sure that would work here.

PPS: Thank you for not attacking me. I'm thankful we (as a whole) can keep our manners and still exchange our opinions. If my post seemed personal, it wasn't meant to be. Ciao!
To enjoy Japan you gotta go out and experience it! Need a buddy, msg me!

No offense was taken. I am coming back from the states after doing a rotation there. I speak well above average Japanese, and understand both sides of the fence when it comes to rank issues.

Here is something you probably didn't know, but after 5 years, civilians lose their on base housing entitlement. This prevents the issue you are primarily concerned with.

Nobody should be attacked for their opinion. Often there is more than the story than many realize, and reasonable discussion is required. There are jobs that civilians perform here that would be extremely hard to find qualified military applicants for. To fill these jobs is often difficult and to apply a restriction like "limited housing" would make it nearly impossible.

But, back to the original point of my post (I am the OP), there is no excuse to live like a pig in a public setting. I am not afraid to speak up if I see someone out of line, but they don't always do it when someone is watching. I can almost guarantee they were sitting with their buddies eating chicken and no one said anything to deter them.

There is rank specific housing? I live in a tower, on base. My tower has all kinds of people from civilians to E-5's. There's even a Commander living here. The only rank specific housing that I know of is the houses for O-6 and above.

Sadly, after normal working hours the only people at the Lodge are the ones who work at the desk. Unless they get reported, no one is going to stop these people from being pigs. I sure as heck am not going to man a filthy pig watch in the Lodge or anywhere else. I would expect our community to police itself, not depend on Security to fight our battles for us. After all, once Security has come and gone, you still have to live with your neighbor.
