Just a little heads up or an awareness to the matter but we went to a hot springs hotel and ventured to Yunessan for Fathers day weekend and my 7 year old contracted a bacterial infection on her bum and legs and thighs. It looks like chicken pox and some are blistery. I took her to the ER and I suppose this is common in hot tubs and such. I guess it makes complete sense with all the people using the warm waters and it thrives in those conditions but it is painful and there is no other way to prevent this besides not getting in the springs. I did a thorough cleaning of the house but my 8 month old ended up with a few spots on her somehow. Its pretty nasty so please keep this in mind. I dont think we will be doing public hot springs anymore-its very hard to clear up. They say it could take months.

That sounds awful! I've never been to Yunessun, so I can't really comment on that place. I have been to MANY Japanese onsens though and have never had that problem. They are usually very well kept and clean. Yunessun is not your typical hot spring/onsen though. From what I know....it's a water park / spa where clothes and swimsuits are worn......so, bacteria and viruses may spread easier in places like that. In a traditional onsen, clothes are not allowed, and people are required to wash up before going into the hot spring.

Your kids are young, too, so they may be a lot more susceptible to infections than older kids or adults. Still, it's good to warn others about Yunessun.....especially those with little ones.

Good point about the clothing-that would be a better breeding ground and even though they have showers I didnt see anybody really using them prior to entering. The water wasnt really that hot compared to our hotel springs. I do agree about kids being more susceptible and I just realized I spelled Yunessun wrong! Thanks. I will probably try more on my own evenutally.

I do agree that even Yunessun was very CLEAN-had this be stateside we know how waterparks look-----ick. I hate waterparks.

No, that isn't common in any Japanese Onsen or such.

Yunessun clears all the safety regulations. You two, Jessica and Yoko-girl, mentioned low heated tubs and swim suites. Yes, these factors make it more affectable from bacteria or such, but they are exact the same thing in general swimming pools, and swimming pools are safe because they are chlorinated. (Low heated tubs in Yunessun are chlorinated, too.)

So if your kid actually got some kind of bacteria or something like that, local government's health care department will temporarily suspend Yunessun from operation to investigate. So, you should report to Yokosuka city or Hakone town health care department. ER or any medical care on base must know the procedure.

im certain that she did get it from the hotel springs or yunessun and i did tell the er staff doctor we were there. that was his diagnosis and it fits everything ive seen on the internet. he said any kind of bacteria could breed in that environment but never said anything further? what is your advice then for procedure purposes since he didnt say anything further?
