    PSD Tips of the Week:

    Page 2 Updates + Entitlements.

Page 2 updates/changes (marriage, divorce, births, children turn 21) must be reported to PSD preferably when it happens, or at least annually to prevent pay issues.

If the Page 2 was completed in NSIPS (aboard ship) entitlements are not automatically updated.

To ensure entitlements are updated, ensure Page 2 updates are submitted to PSD via the sponsor's command CPC.

    PSD Tip of the Week:

Sailors who were not selected for retention by ERB and who will have completed 15 years of active service by 01SEP2012 are eligible to apply for early retirement under the FY-12 Temporary Early Retirement Authority (TERA).

To apply, Sailors must request to remain in the Navy through 01SEP2012 via a short term extension (STE) to extend their "Soft EAOS" to 01SEP2012; this will ensure eligibility for TERA benefits.

PERS-81 is now accepting STE requests and is in the process of contacting every eligible Sailor or their command.

Eligible Sailors approved for TERA early retirement will have ERB results vacated but must retire on or before 01SEP2012 and will be retired voluntarily - ISP is not authorized.

These members will also remain qualified for enhanced ERB transition benefits until their retirement date.

    PSD Tip of the Week:

    "Reading Your LES Part II"

If you don't already receive myPay email notifications and would like to, log on to myPay, and at the bottom of the main menu click on "Personal Settings Page." From there, cluck on "Turn On/Off Alert Setting(s)" and you can set up email notifications from DFAS!

Also, Navy active duty members will be able to view and print W-2s and W-2Cs by 25JAN2012 after accessing the MyPay website.

    PSD Tip of the Week:

Please read your Leave and Earnings Statements.

Recently, a member was overpaid nearly $25,000 - in one single pay day.

The member happened to look at his LES that month and caught it, reporting it to PSD.

Not wanting to have to undergo an indebtedness collection, he paid by check, but the payment was posted to the wrong account (not a PSD error, btw).

DFAS began collection on the $25,000 and the member caught it.

In the end, the member's pay was corrected to his satisfaction, but had he not been monitoring his account, he could have gone into severe indebtedness.

    PSD Tip of the Week:

Non-command sponsored dependents will not be entitled to receive travel/transportation allowances from OCONUS PDS to CONUS PDS.

However, they are entitled to travel allowances from the point of debarkation in CONUS to the new PDS (via travel claim liquidation).

Locally acquired dependents who are not authorized travel and transportation at the government's expense are eligible for space-available travel (must meet all immigration requirements).

Please see your Command PASS Coordinator for details!

Please note that dependents under 18 cannot fly on AMC unaccompanied, but also that military personnel on orders cannot fly space available.

Please see your CPC for details.

Can someone please explain this more clearly to me? Does it mean that if we get to husbands command at our own expense as soon as we get there the navy will pay us back like on our expenses while there?

It means if you are in Japan without command sponsorship they will not pay any travel expenses to get you from Japan to the US. That will be 100% out of pocket.  They will however reimburse your travel expenses from the point of debarkation (where you landed in the Continental US) to the new duty station.

Thank you so much. I am not command sponsored but since I'm a citizen here I am okay with that but I am wondering when we get to the states coz he's planning to get us command sponsored there.

You don't need command sponsorship in the States. You will have to pay for your ticket and that of your kids if you have any to get from Japan to the US. From there the military will pay travel expenses to the new duty station.

    PSD Tip of the Week:

Remember to update your Page 2 every time your dependency status changes.

Recently, a Sailor went into severe debt because he did not update his marriage status.

Keep in mind that if you are assigned to a ship and are a geobachelor that you cannot live off base.

Additional entitlements may apply for your spouse (see your CPC for details) but you must live in government quarters (i.e., on the ship) as a geobachelor.

Please update your Page 2 to ensure the correct entitlements.

PSD Tip of the Week: "Don't Cheat Our Sailors!"

Re-enlistment and extention requests *must* be submitted to PSD via TOPS *30 days prior to EAOS* if no SRB or *45 days prior to EAOS* if w/SRB.

PSD must submit these requests to PERS: If they are submitted too close to EAOS, the Sailor's pay may STOP; if submitted too close to EAOS w/SRB, payment may be significantly delayed.

Please do your part and prevent a lapse in Sailor pay!

    PSD Reminders of the Week:

    1) CAC Reissuance - If you have a "64K" or "72K" CAC and it expires *before* 01OCT2012, please visit PSD or FAST ID Cards before 01OCT for replacement.

    2) Transfers/Separations - PSD requires Page 13 to document offical transfer/separation date; we no longer require an eval/FITREP.

    3) PSD active duty walk-in services include ID Cards, Cash Cage, Passports, LIMDU, and Admin. NOTE: Admin services remain the same as before the appointment system was implemened (CPCs must still TOPS certain documents for processing).

    PSD Tip of the Week:

Please submit your Passenger Reservation Requests (PRRs) for Transfer/Separation as soon as possible!

NAVPTO accepts PRRs up to 90 days prior to transfer/separation; the *minimum* submission timeframe is *30 days prior to transfer/separation*.

Please remember that NAVPTO handles *official travel* - not leisure travel: Given all of our policy and procedural constraints, we need as much lead-time as possible to ensure you get your tickets on time.

    Please help us help you!

    PSD (Reminder) of the Week:

If you know of someone who is just reporting on board a Command, *please* ask if that person has been "gained" into the Command by PSD.

If Commands do not submit both "gain" and "travel claim" packages to PSD, that member's (and that family's) entitlements will not be paid (to include OHA/MIHA, COLA, and TLA).

Please help: It only takes one person to ask!

    PSD Reminder of the Week:

If you are separating from Yokosuka to CONUS, please ensure you:

    1) Enter "Separation/Retirement" leave into eLeave to your current command
    2) Print out copies, give one to your CPC to submit to PSD
    3) ENSURE YOUR CLA CANCELS YOUR LEAVE IN ELEAVE!
    4) Ensure your separation PSD gains you and your separation activity enters you into their eLeave

If you are transferring from Yokosuka to CONUS, please ensure you do *not* enter any leave into eLeave; any leave in transit will be taken care of through the travel claim process at your destination.

    Safe travels!
