The Japanese Maglev tops speeds over 500 km/h (310 mph).  As far as I know, the current record speed for the Maglev (magnetic levitation) is 581 km/h (361 mph).  I think it still holds the world record for the fastest train in the world.

I highly recommend a trip on the bullet train if you've never been on one before.   They're not cheap though.....ticket prices can cost more than airline tickets.  It's still a fun and unique experience that you gotta try at least once in your life.
