Does anyhone have any good suggestions for hotels in Tokyo? We're not looking for anything fancy, just a place to stay for the night. We don't have children.

There's just so many out there and I wanted to see if anyone had a personal suggestion. Thanks!

Probably the most affordable (cheapest your going to find) is the Hardy Barracks.

Here is an discussion about the Hardy Barracks in Tokyo:

Hardy Barracks in Tokyo - Pub crawl through Roppongi - Japan's ...

    -----------------------------
    New Sanno Hotel:

    Watch video about them here:
    http://www.japanbases.com/videos/wa...tokyo.aspx

    Their website:
    http://www.thenewsanno.com
    -----------------------------
Tips Staying in a Japanese hotel -

Typically Japanese hotels charge you by the person.

    Husband (8000 - 20,000 yen)
    Wife (8000 - 20,000 yen)

So for 2 people it may actually run 15,000 - 40,000 yen for 2 people.

With todays yen rate were talking $200-$500 a night.

    Its very expensive.

A friend actually asked me to find them a hotel recently in Tokyo, which I did. The cheapest I could find them was 12,000 yen for 2 people, and that was with a discount. That comes to $150 for 2 people. The hotel was 2 twin beds, and a pretty small room.

If you can get lucky, your best bet is to try always at Hardy Barracks, and then New Sanno.

The trick to both of them, is continue to call, continue to call, continue to call.

2 weeks ago, I called on a Friday morning to New Sanno, and got reservations for Satuday/Sunday, both nights. Its rare that happens, especially 1 day prior, but you have to continue to try to call.

Besides calling, you can email & get on their wait list. They will call or email you back if a spot opens & you're at the top of the list.

I stayed at the Olympic Inn Azubu for under $100 a night.

Or use hotels.com. There are 14 hotels within 5 miles of the Imperial Palace that are under $100/night.

Was that for 1 or 2 people for $100 a night.

So 8000 for 2 people in Tokyo? 4000 yen each.. Difficult to find.

The ones on hotels.com were all for 2 people, rates based off this coming weekend.

    Here is The Olympic Inn:
    http://www.olympic-inn.co.jp/azabu_index.html

Suggest you use a translator if you're not hip on Japanese.

Hotels.com is easiest. The cheapest I found was $123.90 with taxes for 2 people (about $61.50 a night).
I use hotels.com, because every 10 nights booked you get 1 free.

    How is Villa Fontaine hotels?

    http://www.hvf.jp/

Their "Twin room" (1 room, 2 beds - 120cm width each) or "Dobule room" (1 room, 1 wider bed - 160cm width) start from 9,500 Yen per night per room for two (weekend rate - weekday rate is bit cheaper.). They are one of a typical "business hotel" style hotel. Rooms are very tight and small but good enough to sleep a night, and equipped well.

They have English booking site, but shown rates are more expensive than Japanese pages... You should try to reserve from Japanese pages.
    http://www.hvf.jp/eng/

Super hotels group offer affordable prices as well. They seems to have a good English web site.
    http://www.superhoteljapan.com/en/

Their "Super room" has actually 2 beds, but in very strange layout. Most of their hotels at Tokyo area doesn't exist in real Tokyo - I mean they are at bit off-center locations, so I recommend "Shinagawa Aomonoyokocho" which is 5 minutes walk from Keikyu Aomono-Yokocho station. "Super room" at Shinagawa Aomonoyokocho starts from 8980 Yen per room. "Shinbashi Karasumoriguchi" which is 5 minuts walk from JR Shinbashi station is also downtown hotel, but "Super room" at Shinbashi Karasumoriguchi starts from 11,000 Yen which is much expensive than Shinagawa's.

Another cheap option is Hearton hotel at Higashi Shinagawa (East Shinagawa)
    http://www.hearton.co.jp/higashishinagawa/

Their "Twin room" starts from 6,900 Yen (per room). Very cheap, but they don't have English web site.

And the final options are: Capsule hotels - many people here may know what it is, right?

    This is one of them:
    http://ctl-inn-en.net/

Their single "capsule" starts from 3,300 Yen per night per person. It's really "just a place to stay for the night." and very Japan limited experience. I introduced this style hotels to some foreign friends. Some loved that, and some HATED that. So it's your choice!

I've gotten great results for many Asian countries on www.agoda.com. In Asia, this usually works better than US-based websites. Points accumulate fast and I get a discount on every 2nd or 3rd reservation.
