So the word is passed and the flag is flown "papa". So the long line of personnel trudges back to the ship the sailors kiss their wives good bye again even though most of them have been home less than 24 hours.

"Sorry crew the word has come down" the old man says "Sortie is the plan of the day"

Preparations are made and the crews begin the work, to get the Grey ladies ready to go back to sea.

"We are all leaving" say's one "Typhoons coming" say's another. But wait another say's "The Blue Ridge and GW sailors are heading home" Duty day complete and off they go. Ready to Bar B Que and enjoy the rest of the three day weekend.

So once again the Destroyer man and his family gets F--d and there is nothing they can do but suck it and move on. Undermanned and over worked they trudge on doing what they do best in spite of being asked to do more with less!

Meanwhile at the top no one cares as long as they get to enjoy more than their fair share.

I know I will get the usual crap about "I signed up for this" or "It's my Job" and it's true. But it's hard to look a sailor in the eye and tell him we have to go it's important and yet they see the Flag Ships hanging in port and can read the weather and see that the storm present's no danger!

Dude, be glad you didn't join the Marines. You get one complaint a year.

I guess in this case you can't blame it on those bums at SRF. Instead you commander gets the brunt of the shifting loyalty. I am certain he will eat caviar at the club while he figures out more ways to shaft the sailors under his command. What else is Leadership good for?

If you are lucky at all he will monitoring this page for insight on the weather! I bet he never considered the Japanese as a reliable source.

"The Blue Ridge and GW sailors are heading home"

YEAH THAT'S NOT HAPPENING! My husband is on the Blue Ridge as 7th Fleet, and they've already said they are leaving too. Don't listen to hearsay. The BLR is going out too. You aren't the only ones getting royally f***ed.

BR is going out. I just think it's total BS that the GW isn't going out! I only got less than 12 hours with my husband and God knows when he is coming back. I understand why they have to go out, but everyone should have to go out, not just the smaller ships. T

The GW leaving isn't as easy as to do as the other ships (I know the Sailors understand this). They'll only leave if it's leaning more towards for sure being "bad" instead of just precautionary (They don't need anymore precautionary after the radiation made them take off for a month). If it was the Kitty Hawk instead of the GW I'm sure they'd be pulling out already.

As of half an hour ago, a call to the ship said they're not going anywhere.

    Sorry guys.

Anyone remember the typhoon in 02 that left the little boat on McDonalds?

Elizabeth, I would not normally disagree with you, but the Kittyhawk probably would have stayed in due to it most likely being broken. Ha.

That's why I avoided sea duty in Guam like the plague. Having to go out to sea to protect the gear, while my family has to huddle in the house without food, water, and electricity absolutely sucks! I don't know a thing about your schedule, but I have been deployed, on sea duty, and overseas. Sea duty is not fun! FDNF sea duty is really not fun! Keep your chin up and thank you and your family for doing the hard job and making those sacrifices that keep both our country and our host nation free and proud.

Eh, it could be worse. Your ship could be sent out due to another in the squadron can't take it's rotation out to sea. One of my favorites was the Cap'n saying "The President has a mission and it's either us or the USS such and such. I volunteered for it seeing how 'They' just got out of a SRA". Yeah two months at sea for a wild goose chase. Then for a reward we got to do drills and spills for the two weeks back do to only making an average on an ORSE. Oh to be back in the sub fleet again... Not.

    Current Typhoon Conditions:

I just realized, that it would make more sense if all the bases in Okinawa, were just grouped together as OKINAWA for the weather situation. That way you only have to update the area once, and it reflects that region.

I think the same goes for Yokosuka, Ikego, and Negishi, since if its affecting Yokosuka, more than likely it will affect all 3 bases.

What I am curious is, about the heat conditions, and if they would be similar? What do you all think?

If I do group the Okinawa bases together, are there any in Okinawa that I shouldnt group together?

Help with the latest conditions at your base:

Okinawa remains in Tropical Cyclone Condition of Readiness 1. Though the worst hasn’t happened yet, and despite Typhoon Songda picking up forward speed and losing strength as it moves further north, remember, all it takes is one maverick gust to cause untold physical and property damage.

As such, according to an official release, the Navy’s 7th Fleet has moved assets out of port at Yokosuka Naval Base, even though Songda will have diminished into a moderate tropical storm with 52-mph sustained winds and 65-mph gusts at its center, and it is forecast to pass some 90 miles south-southeast of the Kanto Plain by early morning Monday.

On the move were the 7th Fleet flagship USS Blue Ridge and the destroyers Fitzgerald, McCain, Mustin and Curtis Wilbur. The aircraft carrier USS George Washington and destroyer USS Stethem, undergoing maintenance, will remain in port. Several other vessels shifted their tracks at sea to remain clear of the storm.

Task Force 72 moved three P-3 Orion reconnaissance aircraft to Misawa Air Base in northeastern Japan from Kadena Air Base, which temporarily housed Task Force 76 operations, usually headquartered at White Beach on Okinawa.

As far as grouping Okinawa together for weather is fine. The island is only about 66klm long. It isnt a very big place although it can feel like it. Its just grouping some of the other bases together for other things. Like Foster is marines and Kadena is AirForce ect. then you get to kinser is not close to white beach so its only confussing when talking about furniture stores or pollicys.

As for this typhoon its self. I just got my power back on. It went out about 9pm last night. I live off base. There is also a dog house, a few bikes and some float thingys they use in the bay sitting in the park behind my house. Thats not including the row boat that was in the middle of the intersection this morning or any of the other stuff that has been cleaned up.
So this was a pretty nasty storm. I dont think I would mind if they made my husband get out of harms way for it.
