Question From Ikego Housing Detachment May 17th, 2011 Town Hall Minutes

Q: What is the base doing to support the urgent need for energy conservation?

A: No night sports. No light in the parking garage. Additionally, energy conservation tips have been publicized in the Seahawk, on Facebook, the CFAY website and channel 15 for residents to follow to help reduce power consumption. We welcome your ideas and suggestions as well.

    Energy Tips of the Day:

    (1) Close all drapes or blinds on any sun-facing exposures to conserve the cooler air in your home and office (so your A/C unit will not need to work even harder and consume more electricity).

    (2) Close the door to any rooms in your quarters or space that you are not using or use only sparingly.

Do waste electricity cooling a space that you aren't using.

    Energy Tip of the Day:

Use specific task lighting (rather than lighting a whole room), or use natural daylight when you can.

This will save power, and unnecessary extra lights just add extra heat to your home or office!

Tips to help conserve energy energy this summer
    Fom NAVFAC Far East

In Your Home, Quarters, Workplace or Office:

Use fans instead of A/C when possible.
    Set the A/C temperature setting to 80°F / 27°C.
Close south- & east-facing blinds or curtains during the day.
Keep windows and doors closed when the A/C is operating.
    Large appliances - LIMIT use from 9 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Small appliances - completely switch off when not in use.
SHUT DOWN PCs and office equipment before leaving / going home.

If possible, reduce lighting by switching off additional lights.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUMMERTIME SUPPORT

    Summer Energy Conservation Legend
Reduction Progress from 17 to 23 June

Due to reduced power generation capabilities for the damage caused by The Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami, TEPCO anticipates a shortfall of up to 8.5 Gigawatts of power this summer.

The Government of Japan (GOJ) has mandated that ALL large users (CFAY) reduce their peak demand by 15%.

CFAY has a goal of 25% to make sure it complies with this GOJ directive.

Please review the slides provided by Naval Facilities Engineering Command Far East.
