Hi I'm a US Army Corps of Engineer civilian employee and I have recently applied for a position with DLA (Defense Logistics Agency) at Yokota AFB.  I have a few questions about Yokota.
    1.  Are civilians allowed to live off-base?  I would prefer to live off-base if possible.
    2.  If civilians are not allowed to live off-base, are the on-base housing dog friendly?  I have 2 dogs (20lbs. each, house dogs) and they will be coming with me and my wife.
    3.  What is the nearest train line at Yokota?

I have been to Camp Zama numerous times, as our main office is at CZ, so I am very familiar around CZ, but I have no clue as to what's at Yokota AFB.

Any insights would be appreciated, as it may help in deciding to accept the position if I'm offered.

    1. Yes and that is preferred by the current command.
    2. On base: only people living in Garden units are allowed dogs. AD Military gets 1st pick, if there are none on the list then you can get it. Timing is everything, I don't think you can have dogs in the TLF though, so they would be required to stay at the vet or a friends home locally initially. If you live off base ~ most people have around a 15 minute drive to base, sometimes the gates are congested so it could take 10 minutes to get on base. Normally at start of duty days and end of duty days.
    3. Fussa Station is 0.5 miles from the Fussa gate, easy walk in good weather, (There is one slightly closer but the times aren't reliable like the Fussa Station)

The area has allot of the same stuff as everywhere else, shopping malls are 10-15 minutes away, trains are close. A decent selection of restaurants on and off base. The closest Outback and Red Lobster are the ones near Zama & Atsugi. Snow skiing is a hour away at Fujiten.

Is there anything specific you're looking for or interested in?

Finding a "pets OK" house or apartment is not easy here.
One place I know near Yokota which you can stay with pets is American Village in Tachikawa.
I found video on YouTube, search "American village Tachikawa".

Thanks Yokota and sakurasaku for the information.
I do prefer to live off-base. I guess I'll have to ask my Japanese friends to assist me to get a house/apt that is dog friendly.

I lived in American Village back in the 90's for four years.

Positives: very quiet, close to base, decent sized places (I think the 4 bedroom units are about 1,250 square feet).

Negatives: very old and poor quality, cold in the winter.

For me, the fact that it was quiet was of paramount importance (tough to find in Japan). My recollection is that off base housing was not very developed around Yokota and there were not a lot of great choices. We had our AV place pretty well decorated and it was comfortable enough.

It seems to me that I heard there is now a surplus if base housing at Yokota.
