Hi there.  I would like to get a 3D ultrasound done in Yokosuka as soon as possible.  To my understanding, Tricare won't cover it, so I am ok with paying out of pocket for this service.  Does anyone know if there is one near the main base?  I am looking for something very close because I don't drive and am not comfortable yet with the train system (I even consider Yokohama way too far for me!)  I would definitely appreciate specific directions on how to find the place also.  Thanks so much...I'm really hoping I can get this done!

The only one I know of is about a 15 minute drive. This was back in 02 when I had my first, and because we didn't have a car either and when I had called and found out the price it was more than I was willing to pay, we didn't go. The OB/GYN clinic at the hospital should have the directions, that is where I had got the info from when I was interested in going. Hope this helps!

Is it for a clinical reason? Do you have a referral from a doctor for follow-up treatment? If so, why wouldn't Tricare pay?

ThaiGuy, most 3D ultrasounds are not considered medically necessary. I have had high risk pregnancy's and while I get a ton of ultrasounds, most insurance companies will not pay for a 3D. USNH offers a regular ultrasound, but will not cover an ultrasound that is not considered a non-medical issue.

    Hello

I'm Japanese and pregnant in Yokosuka also.

there's a popular clinic called Goto Sanfujinka near yokosuka chuo station.
    http://www.gotosanfujinka.jp/html/gairai.html

you can walk there from the base.

    they even have "4D"!!

but I'm not sure if they speak English so you should find somebody speaks japanese. maybe your husband's co-worker's japanese wives or gfs.

hi marie, that sounds very close! i live off-base near the yokosuka-chuo station. unfortunately, i don't know anyone who speaks japanese. i tried clicking on the link, but it's all in japanese also... do you know how much it costs?

and to thaiguy, julie is right. this ultrasound isn't considered "medically necessary". i would just love to see my baby in 3D!

update: i just called the clinic and they don't take walk-ins. they only offer ultrasounds for their patients. i also asked several of the doctors at the base hospital and they have no idea where i can get one other than that i could probably find a place in tokyo. since i am fairly new here, i am not comfortable traveling too far yet. it seems that i may miss out on an opportunity to get me some 3D photos.

Im sorry I couldnt help you

this is a website of the clinic I go to off base. http://www.myclinic.ne.jp/paxladies/pc/

its in yokosuka but you have to take a train to kita kurihama station (takes only 8mins from yokosuka chuo) and a bus from the kita kurihama station to a bus stop called "sahara bashi" (takes about 7mins from the station)
so maybe its too complecated for you... but they take walk ins.

or you can take a taxi, I think it will cost like $40 from the base because its not that far.

if you wanna find a clinic with an English speaker, i think you'll have to travel to tokyo...
