Well I moved into a really really nice apartment, 3 bedrooms and a livingroom/kitchen for only $1,670/m.  When I first decided to pick the apartment I directly asked the housing agent "I can get Fiberoptic here yes?" and she said "Yes, Fiberoptic here."

    ------ 2 months later ------

I've been setup on ADSL internet which has been OK but it bottlenecks all the time and it kills the gaming experience.  When I asked to be upgraded to fiberoptics they told me it would be on my floor soon.

    ------ 2 Weeks Later ------

I get an email from the landlord/housing agency stating that due to the building design it was impossible to provide fiberoptics to the 8th floor and the line stops at the 3rd floor.  I feel so cheated right now and lied to because now I am seriously considering moving from this place to one that does have fiberoptic internet just so I can actually hold a decent video chat online with family back home or heck...just sit down to play a few games online without bandwidth bottlenecking.

I think when you choose a house/ apartment from the "Cho Wall" they should put in the brochure if the place can have fiberoptics or not.  It would greatly help in the finaly deciding on a place to get in the end.

Arrange a meeting with the housing office and your agent/landlord. Tell them in no uncertain terms that the reason you selected the apartment was because you were told that this would be available. Since it its not at the very least you deserve a reduction in rent.

What difference does a reduction in rent going to do for you, when all its gonna do is save the Navy money? He isnt going to be able to pocket whatever they knock off his rent... If it means this much to you, then try and work it out to move down to an available apartment where they will be installing Fiberoptic internet...

Not to be a sour puss, but did you get that in writing that the apartment will offer Fiber-optic internet access? If not, then you may just be out of luck unless you have a really good housing agent. If you don't have much stuff, then your best bet would be look into moving down a few floors like Hoff suggested.
I come to shop, I stay to post.

I agree the best thing would be to move if possible if the fiberoptic thing is that important to you. I live on the 2nd floor of a townhome/house. I had to get it installed. It was interesting to watch them put it through the AC piping. Weird!

    Good luck!
To enjoy Japan you gotta go out and experience it! Need a buddy, msg me!
