Q: I am the general manager for the Care of Supplies in Storage contract at Yokohama North Dock. I have a staff of 15 personnel, mostly retired officers and senior enlisted, working in this contract. Five of my staff currently reside in the Negishi housing complex. I am requesting an exception to policy to allow the remaining personnel who are married but are not co-located with their spouses to occupy housing in the Negishi complex. There are currently 75 vacant units in the Negishi complex. As contractors we are paying between $2,000 and $2,500 a month depending on square footage. We are a government contractor. In allowing my staff to occupy these vacant quarters it would bring that revenue back to the government. We are aware that if the need arose we would have to vacate. A: Unfortunately, we can not support your request, as per our instructions, contractor personnel may be eligible for Military Family Housing if accompanied with bona fide family members and only when surplus units are available. Bona fide family members are those who will reside with the sponsor for nine consecutive months or more each year during the sponsor’s tour and are command sponsored.
