Im so picky about my hair,the language barrier freaks me out and im to scared to go out in town?does anyone know of anyone who cuts hair from their home?I need someone with experience in layers and thick hair!Please help,ive had one hair cut since february of last year!!

Call Jessica at Pretty in Pink Hair Salon. She has a REAL salon out of her Tower apartment in Ikego and we LOVE her. She also does great color (blonde and highlights). 246-5698. She's young and hip and really does a great job. P.S. I tanned her yesterday

Thanks ladies for this. I tried going to the NEX and also tried Kenje on Blue street both were very disappointing! Finally an opportunity for a trip back to the states came up and I just got my hair cut there. I can't keep waiting till I go back to the states though. I will have to try Jessica out as I too have long thick layered hair! Does anyone know what she charges for a cut? No color.

I am licensed comsetologist coming to yokosuka in jan 2012.. Where can I find work or where can i do hair there?

I had VERY disappointing experiences with people cutting my hair on base and in their homes. I ended up at Hair Make Really in Mikasa Mall and found someone who knows how to do a good short haircut AND I get an incredible pampering experience with a scalp/head massage and neck and shoulder rub.

Yeah, I pretty much gave up on getting my hair cut at the NEX salon. Twice in a row I wound up with a haircut that was NOTHING like what I wanted, and when the woman refused to trim my hair after I got a perm I was done.

tulipsonly- I am interested in contacting your friend Jessica. I am blonde, and have highlights put in my hair. I have had a couple bad expereinces here, that I have had to have fixed back in the states. So needless to say I am bit afraid of having anyone do anything to my hair, but I am defiently in need at this point! haha. If she is on Ikego her phone numbe would be 046-806-5698...correct? I only have a cell phone( I live off base) and have tried calling this number, but am having no luck getting through? Have an suggestions?

Did you have any luck getting a good number? I am also in bad need of a cut and would like low lights/black foils done. I also only have a cell.

Can anybody tell me if it's an easy walk from the train gate?

 

@Lady of the House: When you get to Jimmuji Station, you just cross the tracks and you are right at Jimmuji Gate. We are VERY fortunate here in Ikego to be so close to the train station.

I am trying to find out about the gal that does hair on Ikego. "Pretty In Pink". Really need to get my hair done. Do you know anything about her and/or how I can contact her for an appointment? I was wondering how far it is to walk from the Jimmuji Gate to her tower.

We live in Zushi and as of yet have no car so I would be taking the train and then walking from there.

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

@Lady of the house- hey there...no I still haven't gotten further information on the woman who has the salon. I only posted this a couple days ago though, and sometimes it takes a bit to get a response. Sorry...I will let you know if I find out information though...do the same if you hear something. Still nervous to have anyone do anything to my hair, but my hair is driving me crazy now!!! 

She moved to the states in June. And if your hair wasn't blonde, once she colored it, it was....even if you specifically said NO blonde. She fried my hair. There is another lady who does hair in Ikego out of her house. I seen the results...they look good. But I don't know her name. Sorry.

Wow, there just doesn't seem to be an easy answer to the hair thing. :-(

@Megan, if you come up with something I would appreciate info. I am about to walk out in town here in Zushi with a pic in hand and hope for the best. I usually have my hair cut every four weeks and it's been about 8 weeks now. I've even cut on it myself some. I will let you know if I come up with anything.

Try Tony & Guy. Im sure they have a service in English in Yokohama. I always go here in Tokyo, the Harajuku one is the best. They are all trained in The UK and USA.

It seems like it is a major topic of discussion with most woman on base. If someone was trained in the states, and new how to do great haircuts, color, and highlights the PCS'd here they could really make some serious money! haha.

I just want to add that there seems to be a lot of great salons off base. I have had great experience getting my hair done and a lot of Japanese speak some English. Take a picture or get the google translator out if you are worried about it. I have extremely difficult hair but the experience is unlike an american salon. they pamper you. there are several right near the gates and they have american clients so dont be afraid to venture out.

@Jessica, I agree totally that there are good salons off base.

@Megan, I can understand your concern with the lighter hair thing. I keep mine darker (burgandy-ish) with low lights (black) I have colored my own hair for years and brought a hefty supply of my color with me. I did not bring the black as I have been having my low lights done for me. Black is pretty much black though. I did take a leap and get my hair cut at "Kingdom" in Motomachi. I had picture in hand and went for it. I have a short funky cut and it is now MUCH shorter. That being said I got a good “precision” cut but a bit shorter than the pic.

It’s not a disaster. I did not go home in tears. It will be right where I want in a week or two so the cut will last a little longer than usual. I would still go back to the same person because I feel like we have broken the ice and I can better communicate to him what I want next time. I just don’t know if I want to keep going that far to get my hair cut. I would rather walk right out here in Zushi to get it done. I did not get my lows done yet and now it’s a bit too short for foils. :-) (I have straight fine hair as well but not really thin)

I hope you find somebody you can be comfortable with. I did enjoy the treatment you receive in the local shops! They really make it a pleasant experience.
