I live off-base in Yokosuka, just a few blocks from the Blue St. area.  Does anyone have any good recommendations for food?  I am specifically looking for a sushi place that sells maki (rolls)?  i'm pregnant right now and can't eat sushi ( not that i like it much anyway), but i am craving some cooked rolls such as caterpillar rolls, dragon rolls, etc.  not sure if this is more of an "americanized" japanese food.  also, does anyone know of restaurants that deliver?  it's getting hard to walk everywhere these days.  thank you.

oh also, (sorry for all the questions), but does anyone know a nearby upper scale restaurant in yokosuka?  everything around here seems fast-food like, but on special occasions, i would like to dine somewhere nicer.

The Banzai Head Restaurant is just off blue street and has some really amazing food.  (The clam dish is OMG to die for good, not sure about maki though).   They  have English menus and the some of the staff speak pretty good English.

This link will give you info on how to find it  (scroll down for the map link).

Yokosuka Ichiban - Banzai Head Restaurant (should open to a new window)

I should add that it doesn't look like much from the outside, but it is absolutely not fast food.

I don't much about places that deliver off base, sorry.

There is a nice restaurant up in the Mercure Hotel. Also, in More's and Daiei there are a couple of nice sit-downs. Have you tried Sukiyaki or Shabu Shabu yet? Mmmmm

I second the 100yen sushi place. Yummy! The Toto Sushi id Daiei is good too- they have the best soup! I have not seen any of those crazy American-style maki rolls anywhere and we have been here over a year, but there are plenty of cooked items available. I ate raw sushi (here) all the way through my last pregnancy though.

generally Japanese Sushi Chef is very conservative .
they don't admit Sushi that is americanized  like  California-roll

so, in Japan.  Sushi bar that serves "american-roll" is  rare .

More City's Mall has some nice resturants (8th or 9th floor?). I like their Chinese Resturant.

I craved curry when I was pregant and Nirvana at Mikasa Mall is awesome. Kinda scary going down when you're really pregannt but I love the food.

    Good luck!
To enjoy Japan you gotta go out and experience it! Need a buddy, msg me!

I don't think many japanese sushi places have americanized sushi rolls. I know the sushi go round, 100 yen per plate located a little pass livin on the left hand side has some fried shrimp tempura and cooked salmon rolls!

There's a restaurant a street or two before Mikasa Mall that's pretty good (same side as Mikasa Mall on Blue St; on a corner). As soon as you walk in, you'll see a ticket machine. You have to buy a ticket and then go to your table. You might have to cross reference the fake food in the window with the ticket machine, but it's really not that hard to figure out. The food ranges from tonkatsu (fried pork) to hamburger steak. They usually have a regular menu, but they also get "special" items on their menu that changes every couple of weeks. I like their food, and it's reasonably priced.

Another one of my favorite restaurants in that area is next to Chuo Station. If you're going down the escalator from Yokosuka Chuo Station, you'll see the restaurant to your right, across the street. It has that fake food out in the window. They have a really good ramen in there. Their karaage (fried chicken) is also really good. I also like their pork stir fry. Be careful though....one of their meals is liver (high in vitamin A), and it's not so easy to tell that it's liver until you taste it. It actually doesn't taste half bad, but I just can't get over the fact that I'm eating liver since it's not part of my normal diet. The prices at this place are also very cheap (ranges from 400Y to around 700Y).

Hello, I am also not a big fan or raw sushi ..I have been trying to find american style sushi . The only place that I found that sells and makes fresh american style sushi is the commissary in Yokota Afb . They have tempura rolls, catepillar rolls, california rolls , maki rolls and etc. We go there every month and pick up pizza hut there also. Love that you can have them make you fresh sushi. Wish they would do the same here in Yokosuka. So if your every in Yokota , you may want to check out the commissary. Have you tried Gyu Gyaku in More's city .. It bbq that you cook yourself and it is very yummy and the restaraunt is pretty nice also Sunday brunch at the Officers club is fancy and has good food. When I was pregnant last year I had the hardest time finding food out here .Hope you find someplace that you will like.=)

Mmmmmm......I love American style sushi rolls.  I haven't been able to find any here in Japan.  I'll be up in the Yokota area this weekend, so I just might have to stop by the base to pick some up!  Thanks for the tip!

FWIW, at lunch time (Thursdays for sure) the Daiei has trays of california roll type sushi back among the other prepared food, some sliced some not.
