Its funny to me that the base published this in the recent Seahawk newspaper.

The reason why I say that, is because in the past 4 years, I have never seem them do it. Atleast not publically in their newspaper.

A friend of mine told me the airforce and marines, are more public about incidents like these. They want to embarrass the punished, so they use them as examples. Maybe the Navy is opening up a little more. I hope they do. Make people aware, and hold people accountable for their actions.

I use to work for a Capt on the USS Kitty Hawk that held OPEN Captain Masts. I thought it was great that 3000 people had to stand on the flight deck or hanger bay to here those accused and what they were being held responsible for. I think it for one embarrassed them, and their chain of command who was also right there up front and center. They had a microphone for the accussed. It was great! You got to hear his LAME RESPONSE for why he isnt guilty, when you know for certain he is completely guilty.. They always had excuses.. Some were really funny too!

Do I think it helped them being punished infront of the entire crew? Yes!
Why? Well, because it made people know if they screwed up, they knew where they were headed. Not just a closed punishment, but a public mast..

I am not saying to continue to publish it for our thrill, that is not the purpose for continuing to make these public. Make them public, so people wake the hell up and stop making the same mistakes others have done.

Make them realize what the penalty is, if they are stupid enough to try drinking and driving, or speeding.

Most people are clueless that they could lose their license for 30 KPH over the speed limit. That is, until they get told, and lose their license for the next year. They are like, HUH? I didnt know. Oh well, suffer the consequences..

39kph OVER the speed limit?? In most places on base, thats at least twice the speed limit. How did they expect to not have major consequences???

Doesnt make much sense to me - but if it was a kid learning to drive, then there should be some repercussions for the parents as well (especially if it was a parent allowing them to drive, which seems possible if you look at the first case there - CIV Permitting an individual without a USFJ license to drive a motor vehicle). Makes you wonder.... plus - isn't there some sort of a learners permit for the kids here? If so, then they definitely should have had that.

Thank you Captain Owen for putting the hammer down and holding people accountable. It's about time. I walk and take my bike a lot on the base and have had many near misses because of people rushing to work. Maybe people will leave their gas guzzlers home and start walking more. That is all ...

Yes I am believe the max you can receive per year is 12 points.

If you look above in the may 2011, it actually posts a guy who receive 15 points. Maybe he just went over the limit, but I was under the assumption the max was 12. Either way, if your approaching that high of a number, you need to SLOW the HELL DOWN, or stop getting stupid tickets..

One of the "stupid" tickets they handed to many many people was at the new stop sign they put up by Sullivans School. After 2 weeks of handing out many many tickets, they put up red cones with flashing lights there. Sure wish they would have done that at the beginning when they put up the stop sign. Would have saved me 4 points.

Adam, I find it interesting that they are releasing the details. They used to post the DWI/DUI's up on the great sign at the gate. They would list rank and command. That all came to a screaming halt under Captain Dietrich when a O6 (dental) off of the Kitty hawk got a DUI, then it suddenly became a privacy issue and they stopped doing it. It would be nice if they started posting it at the great sign again, it is deffinitely a reminder, and everybody knows that if your command popped up on the board to be admired by the entire base that action would be taken as a result due to the embarrasment of the Commanding Officer involved. kenn

I find it interesting that they are releasing the details.

In order to fix any problem, you first need to have awareness amongst the community. So them releasing this info, shouldnt just stop 1 time. They need to continue to enforce the issues, and embed it into the leadership to pass it down the ranks..
