I am just wondering why are they allowing the guests to go inside NEX but they will always say that they cannot purchase anything unless the SPONSOR will pay for their merchandise...I just can't get the idea of letting them go inside..I've seen a lot of people doing that using their sponsors to buy stuffs for them...They should NOT allow the guests to go inside the NEX if they don't want the guest to buy anything from the store, Like at the Commisarry.Guests are NOT allowed inside..It sounds confusing but It would be helpful to others whose taking their guests inside the NEX..YOU SHOULD BE CAREFUL because if they CAUGHT YOU BUYING STUFF for your guest THE SECURITY will do some actions for you.....

There's like a million discussions on this topic. I don't expect that the problem will be solved in our lifetime.

Technically, the sponsors are not supposed to do that. The guests are allowed to enter with them & browse, but not buy. The sponsors who take the merchandise to the register & pay fir it, for their guests are violating regulations.

Who is to judge that the item is a gift or not?

Is there a policy stating that all goods must be consumed by military members and dependents only?

If so, then you can't buy gifts at all.

If not, how will you prove it's not a gift?
To enjoy Japan you gotta go out and experience it! Need a buddy, msg me!

    Jlynn,
No such policy exists. Only authorized customers are allowed to make purchases, period.

The only time it can be proved that items are not gifts is if someone witnesses money changing hands and can prove it's for reimbursement. Good luck with that.

I usually never post, but I have something to add to this discussion. Usually I'm not the one to complain about what other people buy and who they buy it for until it limits me and my family from being able to get the things we need. For example seeing one person go into the NEX first and second the commissary and then come out to meet there Japanese friends/family and load the purchased goods into suitcases! They buy in bulk for their family and friends, which is great for them because the exchange rate is terrible! They are getting great deals and we are left with empty shelves. This becomes a problem for us, because it's far more expensive to go out in town and purchase the same items. Nothing will ever happen, but it feels good to rant about what I have been seeing more and more of!
