I'm headed to the states for a couple weeks. I was going to stay on the normal JR train which takes about 2 1/2 - 3 hours. I was so squished and had some luggage so I decided to get off at Ofuna station and take the narita express. I'm heading to the states for a 7 day Carnival cruise. That should be fun. I will see if I have some connectivity out to sea and post some pics while we float in the ocean.

The narita express train is pretty awesome. Lots of room in your little area and the comfortable seating is so much better than being squished on the regular trains.

In my car right now, I'm the only person! How cool is that.

The tickets are a little pricey.

    \4500 yen for one way.

Its a little cheaper if you get the round trip ticket, but I will go back a different way so I only needed the one way.

I have e-mobile so its a USB plug and play internet anywhere in Japan.  I havent had any hiccups yet...  Steady signal!!

From OFUNA, it goes to Totsuka, Yokohoma, Musahi-Kosugi, Shinagawa, Tokyo, Chiba, Yotsukaido, Narita, Airport Term 2, Airport Term. 1

The doors are automatic sliding doors.  So right before you approach them, all the doors walking up and down the train open quickly for you.  Nice nice features..

Front view of the seats..  Seats are well spacious..

Back side view of the seats.

They have a full size bathroom, and full sink to use.  They also have a changing room for children.

    Private mens bathroom.

This is the sink in the mens bathroom.  I thought it was funny what it has written..  "DO NOT DRINK THIS WATER"

They have a pay phone you can use, which is at the center of the cars.

They have a lady that comes around with food and drinks.

    I took it from Zushi.

I know what you mean. I dont like it when you have luggage and getting cramped up with a large group of people. I like comfort, but it comes with a price.. I uploaded some more pictures, since I am on my laptop now, and not my blackberry.

It saves you about 30 min on the train. Once you get to ofuna station you have to exit the area and turn left. There is a green room that you purchase express green seat tickets. A lady at the window helped me. All the seats are assigned so you have to get a lady to help pick it for you. Like I said its really all about convenience..

Wow...I don't remember the Narita Express being so nice! The bathroom is so squeaky clean. You could almost eat off the urinal! Every seat will be full at the end of this month when the Japanese take their holiday. Thanks for sharing, Adam! Have fun on your cruise! I love taking a cruise. I only wish more left outta Japan.

We used it last time we flew into NRT since the last Zama bus had left. Quick, quiet and comfortable. I think it was 3500 yen pp one way to Shinjuku. From there we took the Romance Train home. Still, you can't beat the NRT to Zama bus when it comes to price.......free.

As we got closer to Narita, the seats filled up.. I still was lucky to have both the 2 seats by myself.

I have an N'EX ticket for tomorrow, but I am a little worried that I bought a ticket that doesn't get me to the airport early enough. Does anyone know if I can exchange my ticket for an earlier train at the Yokohama green ticket office if I get there early? Thanks for your help!

Yes they have a storage area, right near the door. You can lock it up, and then you set the combo to open it up.

Its a great service on the train, so you can just relax, and just sit comfortable in the chair.

Has anyone taken the Narita Express from the Yokosuka station?

I'm going to Narita tomorrow on the train (since the bus is full and I'm on space a). Went today after work to buy a ticket.

Well with my limited Japanese skills (read: none) and the station attendants limited English (read: none) I managed to get a ticket on tomorrow's train.

Thing is, I was going to go through Yokosuka-chuo to Yokohama, then the Narita Express. I couln't mime/convey this to the attendant and what he gave me was a ticket from Yokosuka station to Narita.

The only thing is I don't know if I'll need to transfer.

I was able to understand that the list he was showing showed the train times highlighted in blue went to Narita and pointed to the arrival time. I just don't know if I'll need to transfer at a specific station or if I just stay on the one train.

I'll be honest, in all my time here I have never taken the train to Narita (I don't travel light). But, I don't think you have to transfer going TO Narita. You get on the JR express at Yokosuka and get off at Narita. Just make sure you are not in one of the last 4 cars.

If you go to the Yokosuka JR line, that is not the Narita Express.

Narita Express you need to visit OFUNA station, and then exit, and buy an additional ticket to Narita.
Its a lot more expensive than just remaining on the train directly from Yokosuka JR.

I believe Yokosuka JR is about 2500-2800 yen, around that range. But if you go to Narita express its going to cost you about double that amount.

It does save about an hour of time, because its quicker, and you arrive in about 2 hours vice 3 hours.

    Think you're right Adam.

I looked at my ticket and based on the travel time and the price, I think I got the normal ticket.

My original intention was to get on the express at Yokohama, but I couldn't convey that well enough. So in the end I paid Y3470. One of my MLC coworker said should cost me about Y5000 to Y6000 total.

    Wonder why I have a ticket that says I'm on a green car/first class though . . .

I was looking on hyperdia.com and am planning to take the 5:08 AM train from Yokosuka-chuo to Yokohama and there get on what hyperdia is calling LTD. EXP Narita Express 1. See below for what I copied from the website. Total fare is 4,530 yen. I don't think this is the Express that Adam is referring to in this post. My question is do you have an assigned seat on this train from Yokohama to Narita?? It gives an option for a reserved seat for 2,290 or a green seat for 3,780. Can you use your suica for this train as well or do I have to purchase something different. I am trying to decide it I should take this (it will be me with my 2 kids (ages 10 and 4)) or take the private shuttle to the airport for $150.00. Suggestions please!!

The narita express doesn't go to Yokosuka chuo. You can ride narita express from Yokohama.

You can ride the narita express from ofuna or Yokohama. They got a schedule online but be ready to lay double than what you would usually pay from yokosuka Jr line to narita via a local train which is 2540. Good luck and have a great experience

There is the Narita bus shuttle, free they leave 3 times a day. They are located at PSD you can sig up online on the CFAY web site.
There is also a car service it is $190 each way for up to 6 people. Call the Yokosuka Taxi office on base and they can give you the number.
They also go to Hanada, and New Sanno.

Nene2 if you are a patient person and is afraid of getting lost the jr train has a train that goes straight to narita therefore you won't get lost because you don't need to transfer but it takes about 3 hours. But if you want something free take the narita shuttle bus. Just go to the PSD building and reserve a spot few days before your flight and pick a time close to your flight and that's it.
