If you get caught going fast enuff on the expressway = no license ,they will take it away. And yes they actually do have cameras all over the express ways here.As found out by stupid, singel young guy at my husbands command.

Does anyone know the official policy what the maximum speed limit is, when you lose your license?

I was at the recent Yokosuka town hall meeting, and some guy was ranting on and on, about how he was speeding 35 km over the speed limit, and they took his license.

For most that dont know, if your on the highway, and its a 80 Max, and your going 115 or more and they catch, you this could mean your license being yanked from you for 1 year.

Is this true? If someone knows, please provide the source document.

30kph or over is a 1 year suspension.

    COMFLEACT INSTRUCTION 5800.2F Page 7-5 and 7-6

This includes the wonderful idea that if you get caught off base for speeding or illegal parking, you have to pay that fine off base first. Then base wants a part of the action too so when they get the info from off base they take points off your license too, so you get the double whammy.

Also, for off base infractions, it doesnt matter who is actually driving at the time, the suspension/points goes against the registered owner of the vehicle. 3 points for 1-10 miles per hour over the limit up to 6 points/1 year suspension for 20 mph over. So iif you get caught and you are unlucky enough for it to be somewhere close by that CFAY has given Japanese police the base forms for you to fill out, not good.

Also to put it into something we can all understand, the speed limit on Yoko-Yoko is 50 Miles per hour. That is insanely low for a two lane divided expressway. So if you are going 70 miles per hour, you can lose your license. A lot of Route 16 between Ikego and Yokosuka (and the fastest speed limit anywhere on base) is 25 miles per hour, you do 45 miles per hour, license gone.
