OK, So I see an Endocrinologist once per year for hypothyroidism. I am super worried about failing my overseas screening- which is next week. Does any one else have hyperthyroidism and still passed their screening?  I see a civilian endo. so not sure if that makes any difference with the screening. Any insight would be appreciated...

have you already had treatment and now on a follow-up plan with hormone pills? Or, do you still have your thyroid? I've seen people here with thyroid removed and have to take pills daily as an ongoing therapy. They get their homone level checked annual to adjust the dose of their medicine. If this is you, you should pass your screening. If you still have your thyroid, it's "iffy" and probably up to the screener.

I have hyperthyroidism and didn't have a problem with my overseas screening, although I have never seen an Endo. I just go to my regular PCM and get my blood drawn every 6 months.

My advice: Go in confidently, explain you're on a stable maintenance program, that it hasn't changed in two years, that you are conscientious about taking your pill daily & getting your blood checked. Make it easy for them to say "Yes." If you seem uncertain or hesitant, they might give a downcheck.

I saw endo for hypothyroidism in the states as well. During overseas screening the doc said I could see internal med for hypothyroidism. I was approved and since have been followed by internal med here. They have been very competent in the treatment they give for hypothyroidism and even were able to steady out a bought of postpartum thyroiditis which was hard for my endo in the states to control last time I had a baby....so needless to say you should have no worries
