So this APEC summit has me wondering a "What If..." Scenario.

With Obama coming so close to Yokosuka and visiting Kamakura, and reports he'll be visiting military bases a long the way, what if he came by Yokosuka?

Since he's the Commander in Chief and the office commands respect, would a protest on base even be allowed? I know the Japanese would be out in force off base, but what would happen if American's waved their Tea Party signs or "Nope" signs on the base?  I would guess anyone in uniform would be disciplined, but about spouses or civilians?

It just got me thinking about whether our right to protest would be squashed because of the situation- Commander in Chief on a military installation overseas... it wouldn't paint a very good picture to show protesters of the President on his world tour.

Interesting..... I would kind of like to know the answer as well. I think that freedom of speech/freedom to peaceful protest should trump what "looks good" for him, but .....

And another thing about this possible scenario: is security actually going to be fully checking ID's and asking people to remove sunglasses coming through the main gate? I have been watching, and lately they have just glanced at my id and handed it back. They usually dont even scan it, and when they do they don't look at the scanner afterwards. They never really look at me. I think the id checkers at the checkout at the nex do a better job of looking at me and the ID lol. All of this is while we are supposedly in FPCON Bravo. Anyone else see the problem???

Just scanning through and saw this old post... I had the same situation a few years back with Clinton. We were most definately NOT allowed to protest or hold signs.. In fact during the clinton presidency it became illegal to have signs or bumperstickers criticizing the president on a military base. I assume it is still law... a stupid law
