Q: It is my understanding the Officer’s Club will be closed soon for renovation. I have not heard of any alternative for having breakfast in a restaurant style setting. This only leaves “fast food” type options available. When the Seaside Club was closed for renovation and the Officer’s Club was open for breakfast it was greatly appreciated. Are there any plans to open somewhere while the Officer’s Club is renovated? Any information is appreciated.

A: Thank you for your comments. We’ve taken a hard look at this and I have discussed this with the Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) leadership. Unfortunately, in the 11 months since the Seaside Club closed and we opened breakfast at the Officers’ Club we averaged less than 25 customers per day and lost between National Bicycle Month and bicycle safety By CFAY Safety office It’s time to break out that old bike, oil the chain, and gather your friends. May is fast approaching and so is National Bike Month according to the League of American Bicyclists, a group established for promoting bicycling for health, fun and transportation. Whether you’re a veteran bike commuter, a weekend cycling warrior, or a new leisure cyclist wanting to try out your two-wheeled steed this spring, National Bike Month is dedicated to you. With the arrival of warmer weather, it’s the perfect time to pull your bike out of the storage, give it a quick tune-up, and enjoy the health and environmental benefits of bicycling. It’s also a good excuse to convince friends and coworkers to try biking to work with you. It will help make the air a little cleaner and might even save you time on your commute! The fun of bike riding should always be balanced with the responsibility of knowing the essential rules of the road to help keep you safe. • Bicycles are vehicles with the same rules and responsibilities as other road users. • Cars should only pass a bicycle when it’s safe. Slow down and give cyclists extra room. • Bicyclists should obey all traffic regulations and signs. • Bicycles are required to have all appropriate safety gear; front and back lights, reflectors and warning sound devices. • Cyclists are required to ware brightly colored clothes and reflective material during hours of reduced visibility. • Whether you ride or drive, remember to share the road and operate responsibly. Biking is great exercise, and physical fitness means good health, fewer sick days and higher productivity. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), more than 200,000 deaths per year can be attributed to physical inactivity. Obesity costs the nation as a whole in excess of $60 billion in health care and personal costs each year. The statistics on the lack of physical activity among children are also alarming. Bicycling is a great was to exercise too. For more safety information, contact the CFAY Safety office at 243-9622, or e-mail cfaysafety@fe.navy.mil. $50 and $140 per day. Based on this data we do not anticipate opening an alternate location for a sit-down breakfast. While we sincerely regret that some customers will be inconvenienced by this decision, the usage over the last 11 months make it very clear that there are not enough customers to justify keeping the service open. Fortunately there are several breakfast options available including; McDonald’s, Starbuck’s, and the Navy Exchange main store Food Court, to name just three. Thank you again for your feedback.
