March 21, 2008 BZ: We wish to express our sincere appreciation for the above and beyond assistance given to our family by Sean and Asami Dath. Recently we traveled by bus from Negishi to Hinodecho, and after we exited the bus and it drove off, my wife realized she had left her purse on it. Her whole life was in that purse, credit cards, driver’s license, car keys, money, you name it. We had no idea how to go about getting her purse back and thought it was probably lost for good. We continued to Yokosuka by train and onboard we met Sean and his wife Asami. After explaining our situation to them, Asami started making calls on her cell phone and soon found out the bus we had been on had not arrived at the terminal yet. She made arrangements for the bus company to check the bus for my wife’s purse and to call her if they found it and then she would call us. When we arrived home that evening there was a message on our phone from Asami saying the bus company was given my wife’s purse by a Japanese woman who didn’t want to leave the purse with the driver. She wanted to give it directly to my wife, Asami explained to her that we didn’t speak Japanese and she gave Asami her phone number to call her back to verify that the purse had been returned to my wife. We contacted her and she not only told us where the purse was, but she even volunteered to go and get it for us rather than risk us getting lost trying to find the place! The next day she picked up the purse and Sean met us and gave it back to my wife. You can’t imagine how relieved we were to get her purse back, especially with nothing missing from it. This couple went way out of their way to help us, using their cell phones and even driving to pick the purse up. We have never experienced this kind of caring and hospitality in a foreign country and it really made our family feel welcome and excited to be stationed here for the next several years. Thank you very much! Bravo Zulu!
