If you are interested in going to the Yokohama Car Auction on Friday the 26 of November, please give me a call by 8:00 PM on Thursday, I still have 3 available seats .

    MR.Auto Inc.

    090-1704-3538

    Auctions, Cars, Bikes, Exports, Parts...

Here is some photos below, and how the process will take place.

We will meet at a scheduled date/time, so I can pick you up.
I will then drive you to Yokohoma and will begin scouting out the vehicles on the lots.

These are in every vehicles windshield.  There is a full description, rating
and information about each vehicle.  As you can see from the picture
the KEY IS WITH SECURITY OFFICE.  If there is a vehicle you would like to
start up, we can go and get the key, come back, and test the car.
Important is the #5304, which identifies this vehicle.  We will use this
number later on, when we enter into the auction house.  First you must
look through the car lot, see all the vehicles you like, and then write the #'s
down.  You may have a lot written down, so its all based on what your
    car specifications are.

There are luxury cars, and a whole lot of them!!  You can go through
the lot and see if any spark your eye..

They also have older cars, usually 5-10 years old.  These are what you
normally would find on bases, being passed down from person to person
    as transfers occur.

Each car is unlocked, so you can go through each vehicle and do your own
pre-inspection.  You cannot MOVE THE VEHICLES or drive them.  We
can get the key, and test the engine out, look under the hood, check tires,
etc, but cannot move the vehicle, until you have purchased it.

** After the checking has been done out on the lot, we will then enter the
    auction house. **

I will scan my identification, letting the auction services know I am here to bid on vehicles.

This is the auction room.  Its massive, but its never full!  Usually the back rows
have about 20 people in there at any given time.  Most of the people there
are INPORT/EXPORT dealers, buying hundreds of cars every Friday.

When you sit in front of you, you will see this screen.  The main screen hows the current vehicle up for bid.  The smaller screens on bottom, show the last
and the next car up for bid.  At each station, I have a bidding device, so I can click which will submit a bid for the car.  You can I, will sit there, and you will tell me when you would like me to stop for your car bid.

While we are awaiting for bidding to start, I will treat you to lunch at the auction house.  They have a couple different specials, and they are delicious
so you will enjoy the lunch.

After lunch, and after all the bidding has taken place, we will then proceed back to your vehicles at the lot.  We will arrange for delivery of your vehicles back to your destination.

Delivery of the vehicle is 10,000 yen.

Since your new vehicle has not been registered, and you are a SOFA member, your required to fulfill all the registration requirements before you drive it off the lot.  Its best to have it delivered, and I will help do all your paperwork, registration, temp tags, LTO, etc..

    You can contact me here:

I am interested in buying several European cars. Whats the market price for a 5 to 7 year old BMW or Mercedes? I don't see many European cars on this site for sale.

I was wondering what the total prices were, in fees, basically. Trying to see how much extra I will have to spend, aside from the price of the car. From my understanding so far:

    10,000Y Delivery
    50,000Y Mr. Auto fee's

What other fees would there be, since I am hearing alot of things about how expensive JCI and such is!

Also do you have a website to see your available stock, as I was seeing some of the cars you advertised on the site with JCI already, and think maybe I will like something you currently have!

I went to the auction on Friday, but unfortunately I didnt buy a car.

We were out at the auction for a few hours going through the lots.

I wrote down 7 different cars I was interested.

I am very PICKY!!!  I have a specific criteria which is : (No scratches, clean inside and out, no dents, etc..)  You can usually tell this by the data sheet on the car.

They rate each vehicle 1-5.  5 means BRAND NEW!

So I tend to only look at cars that are rated 4 and up.  4 and 4.5 is what I usually like to go after.  Then there is another rating.  A, B, C..  This tells about the interior how clean it is.  A is SPOTLESS.

The cars you typically see onbase are the ones that are 8+ years old.  Those go CHEAP at the auctions, which is why the onbase dealers continue to sell them.

They buy them cheap, raise the price up a few hundred-thousand for the profit margin, and then they sell it to you onbase at the lemon lots.

My recommendation, has its always been:  GO TO THE AUCTION!  You wont regret it.

This time was just a bad experience for me.

    Here is the trouble...

First off, there are 4 digit #'s on each vehicle.  So lets say the first couple cars you like are 1110 and 1149..  The other cars you like are 3459, 5501, 5524, 6420..

Well the auction begins at 10:00 and goes until it finishes.  Lets say you numbered the cars in order from the best one you liked, but that wasnt until 5524, but you sort of liked 1149, if it went cheap.  Well it starts with the lowest # first and goes from there.  You may just buy that 1149, and then the 5524 was under the price you wanted to buy, but its too late because you already bought the first one.  It sucks, because you dont know the prices, and they only have each vehicle on the screen for 15 seconds or less.  You have to really make up your mind.

This sort of played out in my situation Friday, since I had 7 cars written down all starting at different times.  The one I really wanted started at 12:50pm.

So I had to wait, and I did try to get some of the ones before, but they went over my limit for how much I wanted to spend.

These were the cars I was looking at.  I didnt take a picture of all of them, but this would give you an idea..

This was a 2009 car.  Only had 9,000 KM on the car.  It was a 5 rating, and an A.  I didnt know how much it was going to go for but it ended up going for about 700,000 yen.

This Jaguar, was the main target I was after!  Unfortunately, it didnt work out the way I wanted.  This car was in amazing shape!  I wanted it SO BAD!  This was my #1 pick.  Only had 65,000 KM, and was a 2004.

Anyhow, the bidding on this car started at 30,000 yen.  We saw several other people checking this car out prior to the auction starting, so I knew some people were interested.  Well the car shot up like a rocket during the bidding.

Whats crazy is the owner, sets a limit price for how much he is okay with selling the car for.  That was 200,000 yen!  Man, I wish I could of got it for that price.  It ended up going way past that, and ended mid 500,000's..

We were steadily pushing the button for it, until the end, but we couldnt get it it!  Really pissed me off!  The person that ended up getting it, must of had his finger steadily pushing that button.    Still upset about this one..

This was a Mark X I believe.  These are really really nice looking cars.  It was an 06' model, with 57,000 KM.  I really liked this one, but when you look at the history at the auction on these year/make/model, they usually go for about 700,000.  Well it did, and no one actually bought the car..  There were 2 I liked that were similar..  After they went past 500,000 I just stopped bidding on the cars, since that was my limit I wanted to spend.

This is the same car as above.  Just side angle.

This was what it looked like inside.

They are beautiful cars!  I do a complete check on each vehicle, I start them all up, put them in gear, check under the hood, etc..

It takes time doing this, and you only have a few hours, before the bidding starts at 10:00am.

If the numbers are later on in the day, you have a little more time, to go back out to the lot and check some more cars out.

It definitely helps and saves time if you know what you want.  I prefer looking around and seeing if anything catches my eyes.

There was also a Mercedes Benz 2005 model, that I almost bought.  It was amazing, but I just decided I wasnt going to just jump on the last one of the day, just because I didnt get what I wanted earlier.

I set a limit for what I was willing to pay out there, and I would of had to raise my limit for that last one.

Still upset still didnt get anything, but I am just going to be patient and have to look another day.  Its a great experience being there, and you get to see everything first hand with Mr. Auto.  He has taught me so much about the auctions, and I do appreciate his help understanding things.  Anytime you jump into something new like this you want to feel comfortable your making the right decision, which is why I check things so thoroughly.
    ------------------------
About his prices and the fees to attend the auction.

He has to pay for you to attend as a visitor.  He picks up your lunch tab also.

His fee is 20,000 yen to attend the auction.
Once you pay the fee, you can continue to go until you buy a car, so you dont have to get it the first time you go.  If you dont feel comfortable like in my case this past Friday, you can go again, no problem.  It sucks on the drive home though, just having your adrenaline pumping for those few seconds trying to win the bidding war.

If you do end up getting a car, he charges an additional 30,000 to do the processing for the car.

Delivery of the vehicle is 10,000 yen, because he actually has to sub-contract it out to one of the people there, and get them to deliver the car.  They had to do this on the first car I bought from here.

Also couple other things to keep in the back of your mind.  Depending on the price of the car you buy it for, it may be 30,000 yen or it may be 150,000 yen from the bidding war, you need to add in another 30,000-50,000 in taxes and you have to pay the recycle fee there on the vehicle you buy.  Its all written down, and you can see all the details, he will show you on the print out.

Trust me.  Even if you add in the price of fees 50,000 yen, +10,000 yen shipping + 30,000 yen taxes, (then the price of the car you buy), it will be WAY CHEAPER then buying all of that crap they sell onbase.

I saw cars, very nice decent 03' models being sold for 40,000 yen out the door.  So you have to figure, 90,000 yen + 40,000 yen, you just paid total 130,000 and then you just add in JCI, and get your plates, and your still under 200,000 for a great vehicle, that hasn't been worn down by how many different military people that have transferred throughout the years driving the same raggedy cars.

I am picky like I said, I want something that is 05'-06 and up.  I made an exception with the Jaguar above, only because the shape it was in, and I really felt it was a great deal, or I hoped it to be...

Hope this helps explain the process a little better.  There isnt any other way I would buy a used car, but to go to the auction and pick out something for myself.  Until you do it once, you wont understand what I am talking about.

Went to the auction today with Mr. Auto.

I had 8 cars picked out that I liked.

Luckily I got the first one up for bid on the list.

I was trying to get cars that were a 2005+ but this 2003 Toyota Verossa was a great deal I couldnt pass up.  Total was 470,000 yen.  The car was in amazing condition!

Here were some pictures I took after.   Great part is the car is already parked at home already!

Thaiguy. No. It does have JCI left on the car from the previous owner. That expires next year August. Japanese don't normally have liability, so that of course I have to get added since we are required under SOFA.

I will have to pay another 7,000 yen for the name change and Y plates which is done at LTO yokohoma. I can't do that until all the owners paperwork arrives to the auction to pick up.

I've never been to an auction, much less one in Japan. Do I have to bring at least 300,000Y with me in cash to the auction? This *seems* like the way to go, instead of a car on the lemon lot, I just don't know anything about it yet.

Adam got his Verossa at the auction in November of last year. It was a clean vehicle and still is. Hope your enjoying still enjoying your car.

I've never been to an auction, much less one in Japan. Do I have to bring at least 300,000Y with me in cash to the auction? This *seems* like the way to go, instead of a car on the lemon lot, I just don't know anything about it yet.

FTC Huebner, you do not have to bring cash to the auction for the vehicle. After you choose and we purchase the vehicle through my license, the auction house will provide us a detailed breakdown of the costs.

After you receive this breakdown, you can then provide the exact amount, and we will provide the funds to the auction house.

Until the funds are received in full to the auction house, we will not be able to receive the title for the vehicle which means you cannot register the vehicle in your name. The faster a customer provides funds after a purchase is made, the faster we can receive the original title.

I attended an auction with Mr. Auto a few weeks ago, and am very happy with the Mazda MPV I got. It was such a fun experience, I really want to do it again. There are so many cars, it's almost overwhelming. I know absolutely nothing about cars, but Mr. Auto was there to help me out. He really looks out for you, and isn't going to let you walk away with a bad deal. I had my car within a week, and that was even with some repairs that I wanted done. The car had a dent on the back side, and Mr. Auto got it fixed before delivering the car to me. The repair was super inexpensive, and you would never know the dent was ever there.
I still want my Mobilio, so Mr. Auto, you haven't seen the last of me

I went to the Auto auction with Mr. Auto today. Let's say it was a cold, wet blustery day on the lot checking out what was available. I was looking for something that would fit me and the family. Where my son and I are both over 6 feet tall and my daughter is trying to catch up. However due to the garage that came with our house it could only be 5.4 feet tall. Mr. Auto researched the cars that were available prior to us arriving there and had a list for us to look at. I got in and out of several cars, front and back seats checking leg room and head room. Finally settled down on a possible 4 cars. One of them being the one that I actually purchased.

After bidding on my car and the ones Mr. Auto was looking at for his stock, he took me and the other gentleman with us to lunch in the cafeteria. My bidding partner opted for the Ramen which he claimed was really good. Mr. Auto and I went for the steak. Yep, a steak and french fry lunch, with salad, bowl of soup and a small ramekin of flan.

After luch we then went back out to the lot to look for more cars for my bidding buddy. He was looking for a big urban assault vehicle, you've seen them around the NOAHs, VOXYs or the DELICAs (which none of those would fit in my garage). These are obviously more high end then where Mr. Auto and I previously were and the keys had to be obtained to start the engines. After looking at several of these tanks we went back inside to see if he could aquire one of those. If you're wondering he did and less than what he was willing to pay for.

When all the bidding was done we went out and test drove our new purchases. We then parked them off to the side making it easier for the delivery fella to find them. Mr. Auto then took us to the nearby Lawsons, made copies of our contracts (which I left mine in his car, sigh..) and bought us some snacks for the ride back to Yokosuka.

If you're wondering I got a '02 Toyota Opa. It's a station wagonish car with lots of room. It has a 1.8L engine, GPS, CD, MD, DVD, TV tuner and backup camera, with only 37,775Km. I set my limit at 150,000 yen and got it just under it.

Now you've might have read where someone said cars sold for 2,000 yen or 50,000 yen. I can attest to you that it's true. I was shocked to see two cars go for 2,000 yen. More so when the BMW 5 hundred series that Mr. Auto picked up went for less than my car, which I was eyeing if I didn't get the OPA. There are deals to be had if you're willing/able to go. Mr. Auto will help you find something that you're looking for, he'll stir you away from the lemons there (certain Benzs he pointed out had transmission problems) and find the gems in the rough such as my OPA.

After the kids graduate I might just have to go back and get a empty nester car... Something like what Adam has maybe?

Thanks Mr. Auto! Thanks Adam for introducing us to Mr. Auto.

Thanks Mr. Auto! Thanks Adam for introducing us to Mr. Auto.

@ Dave : Glad you had a great experience. I always do, anytime I go to the auctions.. Even just to watch is fun..

Hello. Mr. Auto, when is the next auction? Does it cost anything for us to go?

@ Chaunie : Mr. Auto visits the auction every Friday. Yes, he typically charges 20,000 yen to go to the auction, and 30,000 yen per vehicle you purchase.

The benefit of going to the auctions, over buying from a typical dealer is you are buying it at the auction price. So you dont get the added fees that most dealers add-on to the bottom line when you buy the vehicle. Even with the 50,000 yen that Mr. Auto charges on top of the vehicle you choose, is still cheaper than buying it as a package deal from another dealer.

I always recommend people spend the time if they can on a Friday to atleast give him a shot. Everyone that goes, never regrets it..

Chaunie, like Adam states Mr. Auto goes to the auction every Friday. Either this Friday or next is a big Xmas sale event of some kind. As for the prices Adam is a bit wrong, I know hard to believe but it's true.

Mr. Auto charges 15,000 yen to go to the auction, 5,000 yen for your spouse to come along, 30,000 yen if you purchase a vehicle and a 10,000 yen delivery fee. All per his contract that you'll have signed prior to going to the auction. Along with that though, he'll do the LTO run for you at his expense you just need to pay the fees. He can have your car repaired if you bought it with dents, scratches and/or dings. He can help you with parts such as tires, brakes, batteries, etc. It's all part of the service he supplies to his customers.

It's a great experience and I highly recommend it to anyone looking to purchase a vehicle.
