Commander Fleet Activities Yokosuka (CFAY) implemented its Environmental Management System (EMS) conforming to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 14001:2004 June 2009.

An EMS is a formal management framework intended to help an organization achieve and review its internal environmental goals with the use of a plan-do-check-act cycle.

ISO 14001:2004 is an international standard (requirement) that sets out a fundamental framework in order to have an effective EMS in place.

The CFAY EMS is designed to address the delicate balance between maintaining compliant execution of our mission and reducing environmental impact.

The policy statement was signed March 19, 2009.

Here is the important policy message and a secret tip to remember it by:

    • “C” - Continually improve environmental performance

    • “F” - Further pollution prevention

    • “A” - Assure environmental compliance

    • “Y” - Year of EMS C-F-A-Y, it is an easy way to remember the key points.

We all are committed to maintaining an effective EMS. Get involved.

For further information, contact your respective CFAY EMS Cross Functional Team member or CFAY Public Works Department Environmental Division at 243-3186.
