Hello, we just received our orders, and I am having a very hard time selling my RX-7! Does anyone know a good placement to place an ad to sell quick?

You're stateside, or in Japan? If in the States, try Craigslist and Auto Trader magazine. You can find Auto Trader at 7/11; they'll come out, take the picture, and run the ad till your car sells. I've had very good success both buying & selling on craigslist & auto trader. Just be careful about time & location of meeting buyers. I've never had any problems, but there are some scary stories out there. Also, NEVER EVER take a cashiers check/bank check for purchase. Cash is best, or if they pay with a bank loan check then go to the issuing bank with them to clear the check. (not your bank, but the bank that issued the loan check).

If you're in Japan, sell your car right here on JB!

    Thaiguy...

She already has the vehicle posted on the vehicle classifieds section.

    http://www.japanbases.com/buyandsel...ikego.aspx

It has received 162 views so far.

The problem I think is the price. Not many people want to fork out $5K for a car when they come over here.

You may of paid that much in parts, upgrades, etc, but you can never expect to get that back.

Your dealing one with a sports car. You may get lucky and find someone that moves here and just falls in love with your RX-7, but it has to be a sports car lover, and someone willing to fork out 5k for something you have enjoyed pushing to the limits for the past 3 years.

I dont know what else to say. You can try putting it on other Japan classified/car classified places throughout Japan. Or you may just have to keep lowering the price until someone bites.

Why dont you try putting OBO (Or Best Offer), and just see if anyone is interested in it...

    Good luck..

Also you might want to add what you have done to the car as far as repairs. RX-7 s are known to have rotary engines that are touchy and require really good maintance. Even if you take perfict care of the engine the oringal engines are known to only be good for about 10-50 thousand miles. So keep in mind not everyone wants to replace the engine in a few years or have one rebuilt. And offer every detail of maintance to you car you have done. That particular car is know to have the engine replaced often,so definatly adversties if it doesnt have a rotary engine or if its differnt from what is supposed to be in there. If it is a fantasic running car let people know but know that there is a stigma attatched to these cars. So Im guessing thats the other thing holding you back on selling it...

Since you only have 1 picture on the car, why dont you try adding it 5-10 pictures for the classified ad.

Remember, people love details, and pictures! The more the better.

Each classified supports UNLIMITED pictures, so feel free to modify your ad, and upload some more info..

    Good luck..

i'll admit, it's a nice looking car. But it has a very limited appeal here. Not suitable for a family, and a bit rich for most single sailors. The problem with selling specialty or high-end cars here is that family cars are so cheap. You can pick up a decent sedan for just over $1000, so selling something in the $4K+ range is just hard. The fact that you've had it only a year is of zero interest to a buyer; it's a 15-year-old car. Also, blue book has no bearing in Japan; don't even think of using it as a reference for the car's value. You have a very limited audience you are marketing to, and you'll have to aggressively mark down the price unless you want to walk away & get nothing at all. I agree with Adam, put more pix, esp interior pix. BTW, you can advertise in Stripes; I have no idea how effective that is. Good luck!

Thank you 'ThaiGuy' for ur input. Since my husband is underway and i'm the one trying to do everything and i know how much money he put into it, (and i thought i was selling it for cheap for knowing how much we paid and how much we put into it) so i hope someone will buy it, i might just have to keep lowering the price, and on here, i can only put one picture- but on yokosuka4sale.com i have more pictures up!

Just a comment for future generations... Anyone who thinks you can put money into a car, fix it up nice, and get your money back when you leave is just plain naive. I'm not dissing Christine or her husband, but I see it all over the place here. Young sailors or Marines put $20K into a car, and think they'll get $18K or more when they leave. Not!!

You'll end up having to write it off as a labor of love, or an expensive mistake. I tend to count it as just foolishness. It's so easy to save money in Japan, but so many people go home flat broke having put all their money into a car they can't resell, or unload for like $1500 the day before they PCS.

The car market in japan simply does not operate the way the car market does in the States. Plus, everyone knows you MUST sell the car before you PCS (you can't just leave it with a friend to sell for you). They take advantage of that, and just wait until you become desperate. I've been here only 14 months, and seen this more times than I can count.

Yes you were putting us down - which i don't appreciate! and second I was prior military, and i know that you don't profit on cars! Also you CAN bring cars back to where you go next - u just gotta know how (which aparently you don't)

In christines defense they do sell Miata's, DelSol's ect off base for $8000.00 all day long. Atleast where I am at. I think the main problem is that I've seen alot of baby bumps lately really its seems to be the season for having babies right now too. And you cant really fit a car seat into an RX-7. Well you could......but eh.........sorta.So Im sure its just a matter of waiting til pcs season.

An Rx-7 is kinda a classic sports car. They never go out of fashion. Its not like the guy who lives around the block from me who is contantly doing things to his skyline. I dont even understand some of his modifacations. I mean we are in okinawa, yes you drive everywhere but really where are you going to open up a suped up skyline with a supercharger?  The top speed limit on this whole island is 60k,thats only like 33mph (giver or take a little bit). And all of the roads are pretty congested.........Or how about the fact that he has now lowered the car and put the most silly looking body kit on it. So now if you are driving behind him and he hits a particular part of a street in the neighborhood you see sparks lolz. I think he is more of what you are talking about Thiaguy. The things he has done to his car are not cheap. He definatly seems like the guy to try to get all his money back out of the car too. Its just kinda sad that he cant actually fully enjoy all the money he has put into that car. There is no race legal to take the car to or no little race track to take it out on and see what it can really do.
