    Hi all,

My husband and I are starting to purge what we don't think we'll need to take with us to Japan. We are currently looking at houses in Negishi.  We have a dog and need the yard space.
We wanted to know if anyone who lives in Negishi  is allowed to bring a gas grill? We wouldn't have the tank, just the grill coming over. Do they even sell tanks for grills? We also have outdoor furniture, we didn't know if we should go ahead and bring that too.

    1. You can have a gas grill if you have a town house, some people still have them in towers.
    2. If your Husband is going to be working in Yokosuka you should look into living in ikego or on base at ykosuka.
    3. They do sell tanks and stuff here on base, you should buy some nice grill brushes while you/re state side because they lack in grill supplies out here.
    4. if you live in a town house then you should bring you out door stuff as long as its not a bunch of stuff.

Thanks for the information. I will definately get our grill gear together.
We wanted to get a townhouse in Yokosuka but heard the wait is rediculous. No kids, but a pet, so the highrises are out for us unfortunately.

Hello again, we are getting packed up and I was wondering besides queen sized beds and such is there anything that we should not bring or want to bring?

Who told you not to bring a queen sized bed? We have a queen and we are in the smallest housing you can get here. It fits fine, a little tight with the dressers, but manageable. Now, king size, that would be a problem. It really all depends on where you live how much room you will have. There is nothing I would tell you NOT to bring, besides a car obviously.

Becky, your Queen bed will be fine... even if you get stuck in Japanese housing too. Don't worry about it!

Since it's just the two of you I can imagine you don't have tons of furniture and stuff, so you should be okay moving into Townhouse. You'll probably have extra space. As long as you have nothing out of the norm or extra that a single couple would have, I wouldn't worry!

Just make sure you DO bring your furniture. On base the furniture store is limited and offbase with the prices/yen rate conversion it's hard on the wallet to buy all new furniture sets. So if you need something, I'd buy it before you come over.

A queen-sized bed will fit fine, go ahead and ship it. Don't bring your washer & dryer.

Same goes for outdoor furniture! I've been here almost a year now, and I still regret not bringing mine...there's very few options available on-base, and all they have out in town are tiny little tables with tiny little matching chairs. Sure, you can buy nice, sizeable teak furniture at one of the bazaars, but expect to spend A LOT of money on those!

I'm not in housing, but you should not bring a fridge, right? They won't work off base, and you don't need it on base.

Gotcha Queen bed o.k. We have actually quite a bit of furniture b/c we live in a house here. We have 3bdrm/2bath. One of our bedrooms has a desk and two bookshelves and the other bedroom has a spare bed. We are going down a bedroom b/c he's only getting 2bdrm/1bath in Negishi. I was just wondering if we can fiit everything in? We are getting rid of our dining room table and chairs and our bedroom suite. Should we buy a new bdroom set here or wait and get one over there? What are the prices of furniture there?

Bring your bedroom set. No reason not to; it'll fit & save you money. Furniture here is on the expensive side.

I also agree. Bring the furniture you have. I doubt it wont fit, unless were talking California King bed or something of those lines. I have a queen size bed off base, and it fits perfectly.
