Seabee Indicted In Hit-and-Run on Okinawa

NAHA, Okinawa

A Navy Seabee was indicted by Japanese prosecutors Friday on charges of hit-and-run involving injuries and driving while intoxicated.

Petty Officer 3rd Class Wendy Foster, 26, is accused of rear-ending an Okinawan man’s car with a Humvee she was driving the night of March 16 and speeding away, according to the indictment.

She later abandoned the vehicle and was taken into custody by military police who spotted her walking along the highway nearly two hours later.

She had been restricted to base since the incident and was turned over to Japanese custody Friday following the indictment.

She is being held in the Naha Detention Center, Okinawa police said.

No trial date has been announced.

The Okinawa man hurt in the crash complained of whiplash and a bruised hip, and his 10-year-old son was treated for bruises and a fractured rib, according to the original police reports.
