Best site in Japan to find your way to/from somewhere by train. This site requires some knowledge of Japanese, but very little. Knowing how to write the names of locations in Kanji is suggested.

    http://transit.yahoo.co.jp/

I will try to post a "guide" on how to use this site for those that are Japanese deficient.

Jorudan also provide English version train route finder for mobile phones.

    http://www.jorudan.co.jp/english/next.html

You need internet enabled Japanese carrier's mobile phone (any of docomo (i-Mode), au (EZweb) or Softbank (Yahoo! Keitai) - legend: carrier name (its internet service name) to use this site. Wary about "internet enabled" phone? Virtually 100% of Japanese mobile phone contracts are internet enabled so assume yours are.

I like the jurudan train route finder as well. That is the one I seem to use the most.

I have this one saved in my favorites, too:

Thanks for these tips. Is Jorudan free on your cell phone, or is there a monthly charge?

I have Jorudan bookmarked on my iPhone in Safari. Works decently once you zoom in a bit and turn the screen sideways.
