So I searched and I can find a lot of info about off-base preschool in Yoko, but not much in Sasebo... any thoughts? We'll be moving in the spring, so it will be towards the middle of the spring semester. He'll be 3 years old if that helps any! Thanks!

I don't have my daughter in preschool but I know people who do have their kids in preschool out in town and they love it. I have heard nothing but good things about preschools/daycares/school.

I have my 3-year-old son in a preschool here in Sasebo -- there are plenty of them that will welcome American kids, but as with a lot of things, I doubt you'll have much luck finding one before you get here. There's lists available at FFSC, they might even distribute one during area orientation. I ended up finding ours through networking, just by talking with a lot of people and mentioning that we would put our son in Yochien. Which one you choose will depend on where you live, how much you want to spend and what sort of environment you'd like them in. I don't know anyone who has had a bad experience.

I had a horrible experience at Kurinomi in Haiki! After we left, I found out I wasn't alone.... far from it.

Just FYI, the first day of school in Japan is around April 1. Their school year runs from April - March, with almost a month off in August.

Oh wow, that would be great! Do you know how quickly their schools fill up? AKA, should I try to find a place and get him on the list now, or if we arrive in mid-March should I be able to find a place okay?
