Where can I buy Valrhona cocoa powder, glycerin, and other hard to find baking ingredients here in Japan? I would rather buy from a store than online. Thanks!

I'm not sure if it's the same as food grade glycerin, but the Daiei has Glycerin at drug store portion of the store. You can go to the counter there and ask the lady (it's actually on a shelf down on the side of the register counter).

There are a couple ladies on JB who decorate cakes professionally, I'm sure they'd be much more help than I am! You may want to see if they still have their ads up on in the Buy and Sell forums for contact info.

You could also check the basement of More's City. There is a place there that carries hard to find flours. Print or write this out and that should help you. I found some on-line from a Japanese site (usually deliver within three days), but it isn't cheap. 3 kg (3 x 1kg bags) runs around 7,500 yen.

I have a Chef friend in Tokyo I will be seeing this Saturday. I will ask him too...

Here is another location that sells it in 3kg or 200g packages. A 200g package is around 700 yen (I assume shipping would be an additional 300 yen. I know you said you don't want to order online, but these are online in Japan and deliver sometimes the next day, but never more than 3 days.

They also have a store inside the Sogo Department store at Yokohama Station. Maybe they carry some there...

Tirani- I checked out the ads, but didn't find any for baked goods. Thanks for the info, though! I'll look in Daiei for the glycerin...

Wilson- Thanks a bunch! I'll look around the More's basement when I hit up Spatio. I didn't want to order online because I'm too impatient; I wanted to just be able to get in the car/hop on a train and get my hands on the stuff! *chuckle*

Thanks again, guys! I knew I could count on this forum to get some answers
