I bought a Canon MP560. It had great reviews and I've been very happy with it so far. I bought it on Amazon for $99 from a 3rd party seller who shipped it FREE! (it cost them like $40 too). It arrived safely. It's wi-fi so it sits across the house from my PC.. which is good that it's not cluttering my desk, but a pain I have to walk across the house if I want to scan something, LOL. Highly recommend it!

The NEX carries the ink, but they've been out of the black in for a while now. I'm pretty certain there's a Japanese version of it, I didn't bring the cartridge to compare (it was half the price at Homes too).

PS  I'd buy one in the States.  If you're still in the US, you can buy straight from Amazon/Walmart etc.  I used a 3rd party only because Amazon/Walmart don't usually ship electronics overseas.

PPS- the Canon I mentioned doesn't have a FAX- but I'm not sure you'll need on in Japan?
