I wonder why the Officer's Club bothers posting a dress code if they're not going to enforce it?

Every time we've been- either dinner or Sunday brunch- we see several people in plain violation of the dress code.  Guys in their running shorts and shirts, ladies in racer back tank tops with their bras showing all over the place, cheap plastic flip flops (guys and girls), ripped jeans, tatty shorts... just shocking people don't have the class to dress properly at the O'club and more shocking the staff don't enforce the dress code.

The O'club I worked for had a lax dress code, but it was pretty much the same as what base regulation here is. No undershirts, clean clothes, no rips, no covers worn on head, no shower shoes, etc etc. (The bra straps with spaghetti straps thing drives me up the wall TBH).

It's not that hard to follow, and it's base regulation, so we never had that many issues. But boyyyy do people make a fuss when we told them otherwise. I'm sure most of the staff just doesn't even want to bother with it.

It's no different then here in Virginia Beach! Dress codes here went out a loooong time ago. You can go to Ruth Chris's in shorts and flip flips, it's no surprise that the base can't keep it enforced. There is a generation out there that was not taught to dress up and appreciate doing so!

So much for "Knife and Fork School" a.k.a. OCS. They must have dropped that from the curriculum. Brings to mind those "Walmart People Photos" circulating around the net.

I grew up in Quantico's back yard- you can spot an OCS Marine a mile away- polo shirt, dockers and loafers. The Corps takes them all shopping and have classes on how to dress in public. I guess it's just disappointing some people don't bother to dress up even a little- at least throw a collared shirt on and don't show up in your gym clothes! I don't expect folks to be dressed to the nines, but don't come with more bra showing than not!

Might it have something to do with the CPO Club being closed for renovation? Also, these are hard times for anybody in the restaurant business, so it could be they are just "going with the flow" and realizing that people pay $100's of dollars for ripped jeans nowadays.

John, "fork and knife school" is ODS, not OCS. We are not second-rate officers just because we went through ODS, and don't assume that all the meatball officers are from ODS. I take pride in the fact that I went through ODS.

Since John is a retired CWO I assume he attended "Fork & Knife" maybe it went by OCS back then?...

I would have to agree though...don't just assume those people are Officers. Anyone can go in to the O'Club for dinner, I am not saying they are authorized, but has anyone ever (EVER) been asked for ID entering the club? I know I haven't and I have been going there for YEARS.

Would anyone who's not an officer even WANT to go to the o'club? Besides the chance of being caught by your CO or someone, normally non-officers don't care to socialize in those circles. Just sayin'...

The only enjoyable "O'Club that I ever went to was the "Chuckwagon' at Subic Bay Naval Station. There I go again waxing nostalgic.

"ODS"? Is that what they're calling it these days. What I call it, is a waste of time and tax payers money. Until the mid eighties, the U.S. Navy selected Chief Warrant Officers from the ranks of Chief Petty Officers based on the fact that they had PROVED themselves READY to assume their new duties as Commissioned Officers. Individuals were commissioned at their command and then proceeded to their new command and immediately assumed their new duties. I sincerely doubt that a Chief Warrant Officer would be an offender of standards at the O'Club.

"Second Rate" Officers"? Chief Warrant Officers are selected based on SUSTAINED SUPERIOR PERFORMANCE not because they managed to complete college on Mommy & Daddy's dime or worse the tax payer's. If you think that you are a "Second Rate" Officer, it's only because you let the URL's treat you that way. Don't. One of the more distasteful aspects of being a CWO was having to play "Sea Daddy" for a bunch of 20 something, over privileged, under-qualified, numskull, clueless URL JO's.

If standards are not being maintained at the O'Club, it's because the CO permits it.

Since the CPO Club is closed, the Officer's Club and their dining facilities are now being used by the CPO's and their families as well until the CPO Club is done. I haven't been there yet, but I do miss Mongolian night at the CPO Club terribly! lol

ThaiGuy- I have seen those photos! LOL! Have you seen the music video with the song about Walmart? They use those photos in it.

OHhhhhh......thanks alot guys. I just googled "walmart people". I'm scarred for life. Is this the state of our great nation? Maybe I've been gone too long. It didn't look like that when I left! Never mind the O'club dress code.....have you seen the things people wear when they go OFF base?? Is there a dress code for that?! There should be.....

John, bitter table for one? First of all, i didn't complete college on "mommy and daddy's dime" or taxpayer money. I did it on my own, for me and my family. Also "I sincerely doubt that a Chief Warrant Officer would be an offender of standards at the O'Club", yet again, you assume too much. You must know what an assumption is, right? And i don't think I am a second rate officer, I am proud of where I'm at and how I got here. I'm just annoyed that CWOs, LDOs, and the like look down on and talk bad about staff corp officers. Just like any other rank, grade, group, etc. there are good ones and there are some real meatballs, but don't assume that ODS graduates are less of an officer and that CWOs can do no wrong.

You must know what an assumption is, right?

Surely you jest. I probably heard that one before you were 'Gleam in your Daddy's Eye'.
I assume nothing but speak with absolute certainty and confidence from abundance actual
'deckplates' experience gained over a career in the 'Blue Water Navy'.

The next time you encounter a Chief Warrant officer, you should take the opportunity to talk with him.
You might learn something. Later you can tell your your friends that you met a "REAL SAILOR'.

The next time you go to the O'Club, make sure your appearance is appropriate and if you see
someone who is not dressed properly, show some leadership and address it. If you find a CWO
who is violating the rules, you be sure to let me know.

John, please don't start with the "real sailor". I'm just as much a sailor as everyone else; I wear this uniform with just as much pride and serve my country with same honor, courage, and commitment. Maybe if you got down off your high horse you'd see that we aren't all "a bunch of 20 something, over privileged, under-qualified, numskull, clueless URL JO's". And I do have great respect for CWOs, for the experience they have and advice they can give. Unfortunately, they same respect cannot be extended to you. I do not agree with your views or your mindset as it relates to officers in the Navy.

Belay my last John. That was a bit disrespectful on my part. I think this is gotten away from the original topic. I hope to prove you wrong (in a positive way) and show that I'M not a 20 something, over privileged, under-qualified, numskull, clueless URL JO. Maybe we can put this one to rest.
